Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Alannah

I was super pumped to meet up with Alannah for two reasons – #1  she was my first senior from Elmwood High School in central Illinois and #2 – I had just purchased a new lens and wanted to give it a try.
What happened next was absolute magic.  All of the stars aligned and we captured some pretty epic images that look way more like an editorial spread in a magazine versus a standard senior portrait.  Alannah has the most beautiful skin ever and her wardrobe selections were on point.  Max and I had to much fun with her and her sister and I absolutely love her final photos.  Here is what this future business and finance major had to say about her session with Moxie:

“Going into the shoot I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I had never gotten my pictures taken before so I thought it was going to be serious and I was a little nervous.  My overall senior photo session experience was unforgettable. Karen and Max made it so much fun by always holding a conversation and never having a dull or quiet moment.  I accessorized my outfits by wearing bracelets that Karen had brought. She definitely had an amazing selection of things to choose from.  My biggest fear of the photo shoot was it being boring or awkward. The outcome of that was the total opposite! Karen and Max were always talking and it was a great time!  I used one prop for my session. I used a volleyball and I decided to bring it because I have played volleyball for 7 years so I decided to incorporate it into my pictures since it had been such a huge part of my life.  We went to two different locations – the first one was in a beautiful park that had a lot of great scenery and spots for some awesome pictures. The second location was downtown and it also had a lot of great spots for pictures to be taken. Karen had suggested both of these spots.  The most memorable moment of my session was definitely the positive vibe from it. The whole session I was smiling and laughing and it was just an amazing time. Karen and Max made me feel very comfortable so taking the pictures was a piece of cake.  I love Moxie Design because of how much fun Karen and Max made my senior photo session!”

What is one piece of advice that Alannah had for other seniors getting their photos taken?
“One piece of advice I have for other seniors getting their photos taken is to just relax and have fun.”

If you could describe your overall senior session experience in one word, what would it be?
“Incredible”

Thank you so much for letting Max and I be a part of your senior year – I can’t wait to see what your future holds!

xoxo,
Karen

Moxie Design is an award winning boutique photography studio that specializes in providing a boutique high school senior photography experience in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas including but not limited to Moline &  Rock Island, Illinois, Davenport & Bettendorf, Iowa.  Karen Bishop, owner of Moxie Design, has been recognized on both a national and international level as one of the top up and coming high school senior photographers in the industry.  Moxie Design will offer you not only images that represent the awesome person that you are, but an experience that you will remember for years to come.

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Raven

The day of Raven’s senior session I was glued to the weather channel pretty much until I left for her shoot.  What was frustrating was that every weather outlet you would go to would tell you something completely different about the forecast.  After seeing that the storms were spotty, we decided to move forward with the session, crossing our fingers for good weather.  We met up and started shooting – not even thirty minutes in, it started sprinkling and then raining, followed by lightening and thunder.  We got out of the rain and kept shooting under a picnic shelter and using a giant umbrella, which gave us the freedom to try a ton of different poses, lighting setups, etc. until the storm passed.  I can’t say enough about how amazing Raven was to work with.  The rain could have easily stopped the shoot, but Raven pushed on, unphased by the storms.  Here is what this beauty had to say about her session with Moxie-

“I loved my senior experience all the way down to the roots (literally) . I loved the rain messing up my hair and trying not to slip or get bitten by mosquitos! Karen just goes with the flow and does amazing work.  In my shoot I was hoping to achieve a classic bohemian look with denim and shades of cream and white.  I was afraid I wouldn’t look beautiful. And I was completely mistaken, I am overjoyed with the outcome of my shoot and it helped me feel more confident.  The only prop I had was I guess my afghan scarf. It had a lot of sentimental meaning after losing a member of my family than brought it home.  I went to Nahant Marsh and it was amazing!! My Mother and Grandmother kept boasting about the location so I just gave it a go. Although mosquitos were out for my life and it was quite humid Karen made everything piece together perfectly. Even when it rained. My most memorable moment was probably when it began to rain but we found a great spot at the Marsh, so Max had to follow me with and umbrella too keep me from getting wet and run away every time Karen snapped a shot.  I love Moxie Design because no matter how you think you look, Karen will make sure you feel beautiful and appreciated all while feeling comfortable with yourself.”

What is one piece of advice Raven has for other seniors getting their photos taken?   “Just relax. You might be doing a funky pose or have a weather forecast change, but it’s okay! Let you bodydo what’s natural and try to smile as much as possible because you will have so much more fun that way.”

If you could describe your overall senior session experience in one word, what would it be?
Unique
I cannot wait to see what Raven’s future holds.  You’re amazing, girl!!!

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Ally

Meet Ally.  This Bettendorf senior was so much fun to shoot with!  We started off at her high school and got some wonderful images with a focus on broadcast journalism, which is what Ally will be studying in college.  Ally’s fashion selections were on point from head to toe (I’m still obsessing over her black heels)!!   Here is what this absolutely stunning senior had to say about her session with Moxie:

“I had so much fun with it! I didn’t know if I would be awkward in the photos or not know what to do, but eventually I was so comfortable I was posing on my own and just having fun.   I was worried about looking awkward or ending up with shots I didn’t really like but that ended up not being a problem at all! I loved the outcome and I felt really comfortable once I started taking pictures.  I used some broadcasting equipment because I am interested in studying broadcast journalism in college. I also used my running spikes in a few shots as well because I run track and cross country. Finally, I used my dog for a few pictures because he’s the cutest and it made for a really great photo!  I took photos at Crow Creek park, the stage in my high school, and my basement. Crow Creek park was a good place to be in sunlight and it’s a really pretty area. The park also doubles as my home cross country course, so it served two purposes. The stage at my high school made me feel like I was on TV as a reporter and made for some really great shots behind the curtain.  At one point towards the end of the session, I jokingly made a really sassy pose and immediately laughed. Everyone else loved it, though, and at first I was embarrassed by the photo but now I love it. That’s why I would encourage seniors to try new poses and play around with it; you never know what you’ll like.  It was a really great experience. I’ve always loved looking at other girls’ senior photos and been jealous of all the stunning shots. I’m really excited because now I have my own pictures that I love even more than I thought I would!  I love Moxie Design because I felt really care-free and good about myself during my photo shoot and that’s what I think senior pictures are all about!”

What is one piece of advice you have for other seniors getting their photos taken?
“Have fun with your senior photos and come in with an idea of what you want the end result to look like. Also don’t be afraid to try poses you like even if the photographer doesn’t tell you to.”
If Ally could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, what would it be?
“Empowering”
Thanks for letting us be a part of your senior year, Ally!

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Christos

Meet Christos.

Talk about an absolute natural in front of the camera – I mean, seriously.
Christos showed up to his session ready to go – and what usually takes ten to fifteen minutes for my seniors to feel comfortable in front of the camera,  took Christos about three seconds.
I loved his confidence and because of that, his final images are outstanding.  We ran a contest to see who would grace the cover of our Class of 2018 pricing guide and Christos won by a landslide.  We couldn’t be happier for you to be representing the guys division for Moxie, Christos!  Here is what his amazing mom Katie had to say about their experience with Moxie:

“As a first time mom with a senior boy, I was unsure how to approach senior pictures. When I saw other pictures by Moxie Design I was blown away. I checked out the website and was even more impressed. I showed my son, typically boy he said “sure.” At first he was not overly interested in the process and I was also unsure of what to expect. When we arrived and met Karen and her assistant, I was so impressed on how quickly they put Christos at ease. He was nervous and quiet at first, but within the first 5 minutes, she had the “real” Christos smiling, laughing and shining through. The session was fun, interactive and relaxing. Christos really enjoyed the way he had input into how he stood and backgrounds. Karen really asked him his opinion. He went into the session being nervous, but very quickly he was relaxed and having a lot of fun.  Christos plays the trombone, so we did take a few pics with his trombone. This was a fun way to personalize his session and a great memory for the future. Christos also plays golf so we did some pictures with his golf clubs. Karen suggested the locations and they were perfect for Christos – more urban and modern was perfect!  As a mom, I was impressed on how Karen bonded more with my child than with me. I was in the background and it was all about Christos. I liked that and I know he did too!  I have told several other parents about Moxie. I said they take amazing pictures, Karen was fun, professional and it was a great experience from beginning to end!  I love Moxie Design because they create memories!”

If Katie could use one word to describe her son’s session, it would be “awesome.”

Thanks for the kind words, Katie!  Best of luck to Christos at the University of Iowa!!
xoxo,

Karen

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Hema

I remember Hema’s session like it was yesterday.  Meeting up with this Rivermont senior was so much fun.  This future fashion merchandising major is one of those people who is super beautiful both inside and out.  Her smile is contagious and she is a  genuinely nice person with such a positive outlook.  She was up for anything that I suggested and the fall colors really made her fashion selections pop.  Here is what Hema had to say about her senior experience with Moxie-

“I had so much fun! It was my first time going through a photo shoot so I felt pretty awkward at first. However, Karen really helped me feel conformable in front of the camera as the session progressed. It was a great experience.  I thought I would end up looking really awkward in the picture but I was proven wrong!  I chose two locations, Downtown Rock Island and  Black Hawk State Park. I wanted to look elegant in my pictures so the majority of them were taken in the park for the dramatic and beautiful backgrounds.  A specific moment I still remember was when I decided to walk up a very steep hill in my four inch tall heels…that was a bad idea. I still remember sitting there laughing while Karen and Max helped me up. She later surprised me with my favorite candy and drink- It was such fun experience!  If you’re looking for a great local photographer, then Karen of Moxie Design is definitely someone you should work with! I had so much fun through the entire process! She is so welcoming, helps you relax and not feel awkward in front of the camera, and walks you through the session when you have no idea what to do. Karen will get a perfect shot no matter what. It is truly amazing, It was a great experience and I seriously recommend her!  I love Moxie Design because they make sure each individual achieves their desired look.”

What is one piece of advice Hema has for other seniors getting their photos taken?
“Plan all parts of your outfits ahead time; this includes the shoes and jewelry too!”

If Hema could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, what would it be?

“Marvelous!”
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you, my friend!

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Anna

I loved meeting up with Anna and her awesome mom, Amy.  I had done some family photos for them a couple of years ago, so it was so good to catch up and have this beauty in front of my camera once again.  Anna has the most beautiful smile and it literally lights up each one of her images.  Here is what this future St. Ambrose student had to say about her senior photo session with Moxie:

“My photo shoot was such a blast! Working with Karen was so great, and she was so helpful throughout the shoot. She was especially helpful with doing different poses to create unique pictures. She is such a great photographer to work with, I would definitely recommend her to everyone wanting amazing senior pictures!  My biggest fear was not being able to loosen up for my pictures. However, I was able to and I got to be myself and have such a great experience!  The first location was Vanderveer park. I wanted to use this for a more scenic look, and it was so gorgeous. Next we went to downtown Davenport, and got some great pictures by the sides of buildings. Last, we went to an alley-like setting that gave the shoot more of a city vibe. The diversity of each location was exactly what I was looking for! One of the most memorable moments was when Karen was helping me with different poses. This helped me so much, and couldn’t have done this shoot without her expertise!  Moxie Design is definitely the place to go for your senior pictures. Karen is such a great photographer, and she’ll definitely make you feel like a model. From the beginning when you decide to take your senior pictures with Moxie until the very end when you get to see how your pictures turned out, Karen is so sweet and helpful! I wouldn’t want to take my pictures with any other photographer.

What is one piece of advice Anna has for other seniors getting their photos taken?   “Have some poses planned! It will help out a lot, and make the session run even more smooth. Also during the shoot just relax and be yourself, you’ll have so much fun with Karen!”

If Anna could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, what would it be?
“Amazing”
Happy senior year, gorgeous girl!

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Allie

Meeting up with Allie was a blast.  This gorgeous senior has the most beautiful blue eyes and looks like she just stepped out of the pages of a magazine.  We shot her entire session downtown Davenport and had a lot of fun exploring the different areas down there.  Allie’s fashion choices were on point.  Any time someone incorporates a fur piece into their wardrobe choices, I’m in heaven and Allie’s vest really added something special to her urban images. Here is what Allie had to say about her senior experience with Moxie:

“I really liked working with Karen and her assistant Max, they made the shoot really fun and comfortable! They are both super nice and showed their interest in really getting to know me during it by asking questions about school and talking about their lives as well. They both had great ideas on poses which really helped cause I had no idea what to do at first. One of my favorite parts of the shoot was when Karen climbed into a tree to get the best angle for a picture, we were all laughing the whole time and the whole photo shoot was a great experience!  In the shoot I wanted to get a lot of smiling pictures and some serious ones which I thought would turn out horrible cause I have never done a photo shoot like this. I wanted my shoot to look urban but didn’t have an idea of where to go, Karen came up with great places that turned out looking exactly how I wanted!  I thought it was going to be super awkward and that I would be super picky and not like my photos but it wasn’t awkward at all and I liked all of my photos, they turned out so great!  Karen and Max were super fun, had a bunch of great ideas, and  I would love to do another photo shoot with them!  I love Moxie Design because they make you feel extremely comfortable during the shoot and the photos all turned out amazing!”

What is one piece of advice that Allie has for other seniors getting their photos taken?

“Its not as awkward as you think its going to be. Its actually really fun to step out of your comfort zone at the beginning and by the end you’re making up your own poses!”
If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, what would it be?
“Astonishing!”
Cheers to the rest of your senior year, beautiful!!

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Dillyn.

I was super pumped to meet up with Dillyn for a myriad of reasons.  I used to work with his awesome dad, so I have known Dillyn in passing for years.  It was crazy cool to be able to capture who he is at his awesome time in his life (and also made me feel super old that he is already a senior).  Dillyn is a swimmer and an active athlete who loves to work out, so those two aspects of his life we were so excited to get some creative shots.  Here is what Dillyn had to say about his senior session with Moxie:

“My senior photo session was so much fun! the whole shoot made me step outside of my comfort zone and Karen did such an amazing job with the pictures with them turning out so well.  This experience helped me with future photos and I learned so much from the session.  I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to have good facials but I was proved wrong and Karen got the best possible shots!  The most memorable part of the session was trying to get the perfect swimming shot so I was able to get little workout in.   Karen is great and she will get you looking the best possible way, no matter what the obstacles are. The company is great, the photographer is great and the shoot is such an amazing experience.  I love Moxie Design because Karen is amazing, super friendly and will always get the amazing shot!”

If Dillyn could share one piece of advice with future seniors for their photo sessions?  “Make sure you plan out your events and outfits very well and always have a backup.”

If he could sum up his experience with Moxie, it would be “Fan-tas-tic!”

Thanks for the kind words, my friend!  Have a great remainder of your senior year!!

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Sydney

The afternoon that we met up with Sydney was blazing hot and the  mosquitoes were out in full force.  This could have dampened some photo sessions, but not with Sydney.  This girl has supermodel looks, is super sweet and my camera fell in love with her at first sight.  We were able to utilize locations that were near and dear to her heart, which made her final images all that more special.  Here is what Sydney had to say about her senior photo experience with Moxie:

“My senior photo experience was a lot of fun!  I was worried they wouldn’t be good because I’m not good at pictures, but they were great. I had nothing to worry about.  We used outdoor locations in areas that I love that brought out my easy going country side.  I would extremely recommend Moxie Design.  I felt like the most important person in the world.  I love Moxie Design because they did a lot to help and make my experience great!”If she could describe her senior photo session in one word?  “Unforgettable.”
What is one piece of advice Sydney had for other seniors getting their photos taken?
“Let loose, have fun, and trust that they will turn out great!”
Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year!  xoxo,Karen

Quad Cities Senior Photos | Meet Lilah.

I couldn’t wait to meet up with Lilah for her senior pictures!  She had come along and helped a mutual friend of ours during her session a couple of years before and so I knew she had a creative eye and together, we would be able to make some magic happen.   We used locations that were sentimental for her, which really added an element of who she is into her images.  Let’s see what Lilah had to say about her senior session with us.

“My photo session was amazing overall.  What I loved was that I was able to pick the locations where my pictures would be taken so I could have a more “homey” feel to my senior pictures.   I honestly had no idea what look it was going for during my session, but after I saw all my photos together Karen really took all the things that I wanted and made me my own kind of style!  My biggest fear was that it would rain during my shoot and ruin everything, but even though it did sprinkle towards the end of my session Karen still made the photos look amazing and didn’t let the rain ruin everything!  Most of my props during my session were my different animals, including my dog, chickens, and duck.  I love all my animals so much it would just feel wrong to not have them in my pictures, even if they didn’t want to. I also used a firetruck and sand volleyball courts for certain pictures.  I felt so awesome during my session and all my insecurities about taking the pictures went away!   I love Moxie Design because Karen is hilarious and knows what she is doing!

What was the most memorable moment of her session?
“The most memorable part would have to be when I had to use my gum that I was chewing to get my dog to pay attention and sit still for the photos!”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, what would it be?
-Thrilling
What is one piece of advice that Lilah had for other seniors getting their photos taken?
“Don’t be nervous that your pictures won’t look good because no matter what happens during your session Karen will make you look fabulous!”

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Alex.

Max and I had a blast working with Alex.  This Bettendorf High School senior looks like he just stepped off of the cover of a magazine, which made taking his senior photos a breeze.
Let’s see what Alex had to say about his experience with Moxie –

“My experience was very enjoyable!  I was going for a more urban/modern look.  We used alleyways for more of a urban/grunge look, and then we used the Figge for a more professional/modern look.  The most memorable moment of my session was when we were almost done with the shoot saw a rainbow behind us, so of course we had to take some more photos! Then we turned around and we saw a gorgeous sunset, and took some more!  I love Moxie Design because they are professional and fun!”

What is one piece of advice you have for other seniors getting their photos taken?
“Be yourself, and have fun with it!”

If he could describe his session in one word, what would he say?  “Adventurous”

Happy Senior year, Alex!!

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Natalie.

I absolutely love when my seniors are into fashion and Natalie took this to an whole different level.  This gorgeous girl had a wardrobe similar to that of a high fashion photo shoot (and her shoes?  Don’t get me started… I’m still thinking about how much I loved them).  This beautiful girl was a natural in front of the camera and we had an absolute blast the afternoon of her session.  We were able to bring a little bit about who Natalie is into her images by incorporating her amazing style, ballet and her rockin’ Jeep.  I can’t say enough about how this girl is!  Here is what she had to say about her session with us-

“I was looking towards more of my true style, having casual photos who reflect on me. I wanted to show who I am though the shoot though my loves of Fashion, modeling, Dance, and my Jeep.  I am absolutely In love with all of my photos, its so hard to pick when I want to post one! I had such an amazing time, we spent a lot of time laughing and getting to know each other.  The most memorable moment of my session would have to be watching Karen and my mom go speechless after taking a photo,  or taking my Jeep up on the top of a building right at sunset, and capturing the most perfect pictures.  I love Moxie Design because Karen shows who you are, in the capture of a photograph.”

Her biggest fear?
“Not liking all of my photos. My outcome: I post a new one almost every week, so that shows I am in love with them all.”

Natalie’s piece of advice for seniors about to embark on their photo session?  “While the big time comes up, you may be getting nervous about how you’re going to look in these photos, or if Karen won’t get your bad side. Trust me, you are in good hands here, she is here to show off your personality though the capture of a photograph. Don’t be nervous, relax breath and just be you because those always turn out the best. Oh and really show your true style, If you wanna take your senior pictures with your car, go for it. the moments you will capture will show who you are and thats what these are for. So, have fun. Smile big. and be you.”

If Natalie could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, what would it be?  – Happiness

Thanks for the kind words, beautiful!  Cheers to your super bright future!!

xoxo,
Karen

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Tate

The day of Tate’s session, I packed my car as I typically would, but I also packed an eight foot ladder so that I could get some different perspective shots in regards to Tate’s basketball images.  Little did I know that by the end of the day we would end up climbing on top of an extremely high basketball hoop (Thanks, Max!!).

14107677_742416015908447_1447480423170819967_o

Meeting up with Tate and his amazing mom, Wendi made our afternoon absolutely fly by and before we knew it, the sun was setting and we were capturing the last images of the day.  Getting to know these two was one of the highlights of our Class of 2017 year and is one of my favorite parts about doing what I do.  I get to meet the most amazing people and leave photo sessions with new friends.  Tate is extremely handsome and my camera fell in love with him.  His fashion was on point, we were able to incorporate who he is into his session and his images turned out amazing.  Here is what Tate had to say about his senior photo experience with us-

“I wanted a mix of photos. I feel good when I am dressed up so that was a must. But, I also wanted images that captured who I am as a senior. Karen’s photos are a true reflection of my real self. I will look back at them with fond memories of this time in my life.  Karen and her assistant, Max, were amazing. They went to great lengths to get photos that were interesting. They really made me feel comfortable in front of the camera and as a bonus, Karen brought me my favorite candy and frap – couldn’t ask for anything better.  Just be yourself and have fun. I am a guy so I am not used to the whole photo shoot experience but it was worth it. Karen will take pictures that you are proud of.  I had five outfits and even threw some layers on some to get other looks.  You are on a time schedule so time traveling to different destinations and changing wardrobes can be a challenge. My biggest fear was that I would be uncomfortable. The outcome was the opposite. I chose locations that were important to me. And, I also chose one of Karen’s favorite spots to get some photos with my car. The whole shoot was memorable. I have photos that are awesome and my parents were thrilled. We also gained a new friend.  I love Moxie Design because of Karen’s enthusiasm. You should definitely have photos done by Moxie – Karen is an award winning photographer that goes out of her way to work with you. It is worth every penny.”

Tate’s advice to seniors who haven’t had their photos done yet?  “Best advice….be prepared, have a plan, and change quickly. All of my outfits were used and then Karen had me throw on a sweater in the last few minutes. Bring layers…it is easy!”  (and now for a quick note by Karen)  <— This may be the best piece of advice I’ve ever seen and I second it!  Having outfit changes is definitely key, but being able to change quickly and layer to give you extra options optimizes shooting time, meaning more amazing shots.  Nice job, Tate!

If Tate could choose one word to describe his experience with Moxie, he would choose – awesome.

Tate & Wendi – thanks so much for the kind words!  You guys are the best.

xoxo,

Karen

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Montana.

Meet Montana.  This future chiropractor is absolutely stunning and just as sweet and genuine and she is gorgeous.  I was super excited for her session as she is into both singing and soccer and I wanted to get a bit creative in incorporating these into her images.  Here is what this Pleasant Valley senior had to say about her session with Moxie:

I was hoping to capture my true smile and natural beauty and be surrounded by the natural beauties of nature too. I wanted to capture not only my one look but accomplish the aspect of playing soccer and singing as well.  My session was great, Karen made me very comfortable and welcome to the experience having never done something like this before. She learned things about me and brought those facts of me to the shoot to make this one day all about me.  We shot at Crow Creek Park, I loved this location because it was in Bettendorf and it had beautiful aspects of nature. We then went to Pleasant Valley High School for soccer pictures and this helped bring in my school for the pictures.  Karen brought my favorite drink, snack and played my favorite song to help make me comfortable.”

Her biggest fear about her session?  “I was scared I wouldn’t like how I looked but as soon as I got the pictures I fell in love.”

One piece of advice for seniors about to have their pictures taken?  “Don’t be nervous! While it is nerve wracking embracing your true self brings out great and pure pictures of who you really are.  I love Moxie Design because Karen made me feel comfortable during the whole experience.”

If she could describe her session in one word, she would use “amazing.”

Thanks for the kind words, Montana!  Enjoy the rest of your senior year.  xoxo,

Karen

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Bailee.

Meeting up with Bailee for her senior pictures was nothing short of amazing.  From the minute that I received her images for her wardrobe consultation, I knew that her session was going to be more like an editorial fashion spread than a senior session and I was absolutely correct.  This United High School senior is so gorgeous and she has an eye for fashion and all things beauty.  Here is what she had to say about her senior experience with Moxie:

“In this shoot I wanted to make sure I had a sense of diversity with each one of my outfits. The first two I went for a casual boho look but switched it up for a look more elegant as ever with my prom dress that I am utterly in love with. My last look I’d consider would be an urban style, yellow skinny jeans, black heels, a rooftop? It worked out.  My senior photo experience was absolutely incredible. I wish I continued to be empowered with a feeling such as the one I was feeling when we were taking countless shots one after the other. Karen instilled a strong sense of confidence within me. I was so comfortable with everything we did as if i had done it a million times before. Karen constantly had me laughing or left me giggling at her reactions to some of the photos she had gotten. I could not have asked for a better senior session. I fell in love with so many of the pictures she took especially the ones in my prom dress, I could never get tired of them.  Aside from a cute floppy hat Karen provided for me for my first oufit I let the location accesorize my outfits, sometimes the setting can pull together an oufit better than any piece of jewelry ever could.   I brought a red and yellow bracelet in which I wore for my second outfit. The bracelet contained flower petals from both of my grandpa’s funerals. I wanted to incorporate this piece because even though they aren’t with me physically for my senior year I know they are still with me regardless. I felt it was so so important to commemorate them within my pictures because afterall they made a very big impact in my life and helped me become who I am.

I left the location choosing to Karen. All I wanted was to make sure that I got shots in the water and on a rooftop, and she made that happen. Karen chooses the best locations. The location she chose for my prom dress was so stunning and completed the look.  I would say the most memorable moment of my senior session was honestly just Karen’s reactions to her photos she took. It was almost like as soon as she would take another picture she had found a piece of pure gold. I don’t know but just seeing someone so passionate about their job fills me with pure happiness.  I love Moxie Design because my expectations were exceeded.”

If she could offer one piece of advice to seniors who are getting ready to have their pictures taken, it would be:  “Do not be afraid or at all intimidated. Let everything you are doing come natural. Oh and even though some of your poses may feel awkward they usually come out looking the best. Enjoy every second of your senior session because it will only ever happen once. Other than graduating, your senior pictures are the best thing about being a senior.”

If she could pick one word to describe her overall session with Moxie, it would be perfect.

We had so much fun during your session, Bailee!  Best of luck with the remainder of your senior year!!

xoxo,

Karen

Quad Cities Award Winning Senior Photography | Meet Chase.

Sometimes when you meet someone it’s like you’ve known each other your whole lives.  Meeting up with Chase and his awesome mom, Julie was just that – it was like hanging out with old friends.   Max and I had an absolute blast during his session and we were blessed with a great afternoon of shooting.  Chase has an old Hollywood kind of handsome going on and his images turned out amazing.  Here is what he had to say about his senior session with Moxie:

“My senior photo session was awesome.  Karen was very nice and knew what she was doing.  Both she and Max made me feel comfortable right away – we got to kidding around and it was so fun.  I wasn’t used to posing so it felt weird at first, but it didn’t take long before Karen and Max made me laugh and feel at ease.  As far as locations went, I honestly had no idea where to go.   I really relied on Karen’s guidance for this since she is the most familiar with places.  We started at the Village of East Davenport in Lindsay Park.  We did many more shots in the village and it was a lot of fun.  Then we went to an area by Isabel Bloom, then to the LeClaire park band shelter.  She took a really cool shot of me in the stadium seats.  Last, we went to an old building/ storage area that was cool and got some shots there and some with the Aresenal railroad in the background.  I wasn’t really sure what to expect – I thought it would be more of a stiff environment.  I wasn’t expecting to have that much fun.  We met as strangers and parted as friends. I would recommend Moxie Design because Karen does a great job.  She really cares about her customers and the product that she is making.  You will feel like the most important person in the world during your shoot.  Moxie is the real deal!”

One piece of advice that Chase would offer the soon to be senior who is prepping for their senior pictures is:  “Relax, you are in good hands.  Trust her – Karen will put you in the right spot to make the pictures a story of you.”

If Chase could describe his overall session in one word, what would he select?  “Awesome”

Thanks for all of the kind words, Chase!  If you ever need to get headshots to kick start your modeling career, you know where to find me.

xoxo,

Karen

Quad Cities Senior Photographer | Meet Collin.

I had so much fun with Collin during his session!  This future member of the air force is one of the most genuine and hilarious seniors that I had the privilege of working with over the past year and we had a blast during his photo shoot.

Here’s a little about what Collin had to say in regards to his session with Moxie:

“I was going for a timeless but fashionable look while putting my own personal flair in my outfits.  I didn’t want to look back on my pictures and think “wow, why did I wear that?”  My overall experience was really fun!  At first I was really nervous but Karen a did a really good job at making me feel comfortable and she really helped me loosen up!  All the locations were perfect and really spot on, she did great at finding me locations that really fit what I was wearing and what best suited me.  The most memorable part of my session was when it was getting dark and we were experimenting with different sorts of lights and we were also playing music too, which made it a lot of fun!  f I were to tell my best friend about my senior picture experience, I would tell them that they should definitely give it a try because they would love it.   I would also tell them how much fun Karen was to work with.  Karen is a super awesome photographer who will bring the best out of you and your photos.”

One piece of advice for you upcoming seniors when you get your portraits taken?  “Loosen up, go into it having fun and don’t be afraid to experiment with your hair and what you’re wearing.”

If Collin had to choose one word to describe his senior photo experience, he would choose “Enjoyable.”
Right back atcha, Collin!

I can’t wait to see what your future holds.

xoxo,

Karen

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Kaitlin.

So the forecast on the morning of Kaitlin’s senior session looked absolutely beautiful and since I hadn’t had a rain out session all year (trust me, I was knocking on wood pretty much all day) I was so excited.  Her session was going to take place on her dad’s farm, which was awesome.  On the drive out there, the sky turned from bright sun to dark clouds.  I remember calling my husband and asking if it was raining.  He said “um no, but let me look at the forecast to where you are headed…” By the tone in his voice, I knew that “a few sprinkles at the beginning of your session” may turn into more, but I had no idea that it would mean the crazy scary thunderstorm that it turned out to be.  Luckily for Max and I, we met up at the farm, so Kaitlin was gracious enough to let us wait it out inside with her and her family.  In the end, we rode out the storm and captured some absolutely beautiful images.  Here is what Kaitlin had to say about her session with Moxie:

“My overall senior photo sensation experience was outstanding after the rain passed by.  I feared that it was going to continue to rain, however, it lightened up and stopped so we were able to do the photo shoot.  For my location, we used my dad’s farm which turned out fantastic.  The sunset and personal connection made the shoot even better.  At my session, we used features that we had at the farm from hay bales, gates and horses, there seemed to be endless options.  The most memorable moment of my session was standing up on top of my horse, trying to do a dance pose (see below).  Karen goes out of her way to make sure your session was the best possible.  I would tell my friends that my time with Moxie Design and it was an AMAZING experience and would recommend them to her for their senior sessions!”

One piece of advice she would give to seniors who haven’t had their photos taken yet?  “Definitely go through Karen and Haus of Heir for your special day and you will not be disappointed.”

If she could describe her senior photo session in one word, Kaitlin would choose “memorable.”

Thanks, sweet girl, for the kind words.  Your senior session is something that I will never forget!!
Enjoy the remainder of your senior year!

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Lauren.

I loved meeting up with Lauren, her mom and her adorable pup for her senior session.  This future Iowa State Vet major was looking for a contemporary, modern and unique shoot and I absolutely love her images.

Here is what Lauren & her mom had to say about her senior experience with Moxie:

“Karen made our experience so much fun.  It was very relaxed and Karen really wanted to capture Lauren’s moment as a senior.  As a parent, I will be referring my friends to Moxie.  Karen is so professional, yet adapts to her clients so fast.  I will see you again in four years! (Emma Class of 2021)  I love Moxie Design because her pictures are breathtaking.”

One piece of advice that that Lauren wanted to share with seniors who haven’t had their photos taken yet is “Answer your questionnaire that Karen gives you with great detail.  She truly does study your answers and that will work to your advantage on picture day!”   Great advice, Lauren!!! xoxo

Happy senior year!

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Emma’s gorgeous session

I was so pumped the day of Emma’s session because we were going to be taking photos inside of her high school (something I had wanted to do for so long)!  We started in the auditorium, made our way through some hallways and ended up in the locker room and on the tennis courts.  From there, we headed to Riverside Park where Emma was mistaken for a Disney princess (true story)!  So I’ll elaborate.  Emma wore a beautiful dress for some of her pictures and while we were in the middle of shooting, a man and two small children approach us.  The girl asked her dad if he could go and say hi to Emma up close, and of course she did.  The father then explained that his daughter ran across the entire length of the park to find her dad to ask if he would take her to meet the Disney princess.  All of our hearts melted a little bit as we were hearing about this and the rest of our time at the park we would see that little girl watching us wherever we went with such a look of amazement in her eyes – so priceless.

Here is what Emma had to say about her session with Moxie:

“It was a really fun and a truly unforgettable experience.  The most memorable moment from my session was when I was wearing my prom dress in the park and some kids thought that I was a princess.  It was a great experience and if you want to take senior pictures, you should use Moxie Design – everyone helping out was so nice!”

What would she tell seniors who had yet to have their photos done?  “Be prepared to change in your car and if it gets dark when you’re outside, bring some mosquito repellent!”

If she had to sum up her shoot in one word, she would use “fun.”

Cheers to your future at St. Ambrose, Emma!

xoxo,

Karen
