So the forecast on the morning of Kaitlin’s senior session looked absolutely beautiful and since I hadn’t had a rain out session all year (trust me, I was knocking on wood pretty much all day) I was so excited.  Her session was going to take place on her dad’s farm, which was awesome.  On the drive out there, the sky turned from bright sun to dark clouds.  I remember calling my husband and asking if it was raining.  He said “um no, but let me look at the forecast to where you are headed…” By the tone in his voice, I knew that “a few sprinkles at the beginning of your session” may turn into more, but I had no idea that it would mean the crazy scary thunderstorm that it turned out to be.  Luckily for Max and I, we met up at the farm, so Kaitlin was gracious enough to let us wait it out inside with her and her family.  In the end, we rode out the storm and captured some absolutely beautiful images.  Here is what Kaitlin had to say about her session with Moxie:

“My overall senior photo sensation experience was outstanding after the rain passed by.  I feared that it was going to continue to rain, however, it lightened up and stopped so we were able to do the photo shoot.  For my location, we used my dad’s farm which turned out fantastic.  The sunset and personal connection made the shoot even better.  At my session, we used features that we had at the farm from hay bales, gates and horses, there seemed to be endless options.  The most memorable moment of my session was standing up on top of my horse, trying to do a dance pose (see below).  Karen goes out of her way to make sure your session was the best possible.  I would tell my friends that my time with Moxie Design and it was an AMAZING experience and would recommend them to her for their senior sessions!”

One piece of advice she would give to seniors who haven’t had their photos taken yet?  “Definitely go through Karen and Haus of Heir for your special day and you will not be disappointed.”

I was so pumped the day of Emma’s session because we were going to be taking photos inside of her high school (something I had wanted to do for so long)!  We started in the auditorium, made our way through some hallways and ended up in the locker room and on the tennis courts.  From there, we headed to Riverside Park where Emma was mistaken for a Disney princess (true story)!  So I’ll elaborate.  Emma wore a beautiful dress for some of her pictures and while we were in the middle of shooting, a man and two small children approach us.  The girl asked her dad if he could go and say hi to Emma up close, and of course she did.  The father then explained that his daughter ran across the entire length of the park to find her dad to ask if he would take her to meet the Disney princess.  All of our hearts melted a little bit as we were hearing about this and the rest of our time at the park we would see that little girl watching us wherever we went with such a look of amazement in her eyes – so priceless.

Here is what Emma had to say about her session with Moxie:

“It was a really fun and a truly unforgettable experience.  The most memorable moment from my session was when I was wearing my prom dress in the park and some kids thought that I was a princess.  It was a great experience and if you want to take senior pictures, you should use Moxie Design – everyone helping out was so nice!”

What would she tell seniors who had yet to have their photos done?  “Be prepared to change in your car and if it gets dark when you’re outside, bring some mosquito repellent!”

If she had to sum up her shoot in one word, she would use “fun.”

I‘ve known this gorgeous senior since she was in her early days of elementary school, which made her senior photo session a very special one to me.  Juls is one of those girls that I find it impossible to be around without a HUGE smile coming across my face.  I LOVE how sweet she is, how much she loves her family and let me tell you, this girl has some killer dance moves.  The first time I had the honor of photographing Juls it was for the Miss Amazing competition (to which she won – way to go, Juls)!!

Here is what the Hance family had to say in regards to Juls’ senior session.

“Our experience was so fun!  It was hot and humid but Karen kept Juls relaxed and they chatted the whole time.  Karen is wildly creative and brought fun hats and props to create an amazing shoot.  It was just easy… Karen has a gift in her ability to get great photos but also a gift of making people feel beautiful.   The very last picture, Juls was in her formal princess dress – Karen had great lighting and the genius idea to use irridescent glitter in the shoot.  The moment she captured was incredible.  It was truly a magical moment and she created and captured it.  You HAVE to get your pics done by Karen at Moxie Design!  She has the best ideas and made Juls feel so at ease.  It was a fun experience that we will never forget.  There were so many amazing pictures it was hard to narrow them down to choose.  She is a creative genius and takes pictures like I’ve never seen before!”

A piece of advice to seniors who have yet to get their photos taken?  “Wear your favorite outfit first while you are fresh!  Just have fun with it – Karen is so easy to be around – be yourself and don’t hold back, even if you feel silly.”

Meet Kennedy.

This Davenport North senior absolutely slayed her senior session and her images left me speechless.  Not only is this girl absolutely beautiful, but she is going to major in Criminology at the University of Iowa.  Get it, girl!

Here is what she had to say about her shoot with Moxie:
“It was so much fun and my pictures turned out amazing!  My biggest fear was that it would feel awkward posing for the pictures since I had never met Karen before, but she really makes you feel comfortable like you’ve known her for a long time.  My favorite moment was when I was posing for a picture with my dog and she started attacking me with kisses.  The picture that came from that moment is one of my favorite images.”

Her advice to seniors who haven’t had their pictures taken yet? “Just be yourself and be confident because it will make the pictures that much better. That wasn’t an issue for me because Karen did a great job by making me feel comfortable. ”

Having Tayler as a part of the model team representing the Class of 2017 was so much fun.  This girl has such a great spirit and a look that screams all American beauty.  I loved that she had locations picked out that were special to her – and as one of the hottest sessions of the year, I have to give her major props for lasting the entire length of the session (in temperatures 115+ in a barn with absolutely no air movement).  Add to everything that her amazing mom (huge shout out to you, Christa!) and her super sweet boyfriend John came along to our shoots.   Love all of you and Tayler – you are amazing!

“My senior experience was fantastic.  Getting to work with Karen and her husband was so much fun and the memories created are unforgettable. I loved every single second of my session.  The most memorable moment of my session was when I was taking pictures with my American flag and Matt, Karen’s husband, was up on a balcony above us holding the flag.  His arms were stretched so far and he was holding the flag with just his finger tips – I know we all laughed super hard.   Karen had so many great ideas – she is very outgoing and up for anything. I told my best friend that it was the most fun I had ever had while taking pictures and that she had to get her pictures taken with Moxie (and she did!!)  I was free to be myself and Karen gave me the chance to express myself through my pictures.  It was so personal and one of the best times of my life.”

What she would tell seniors that haven’t had their photos taken yet? “I would tell them to pick locations and outfits that describe you – you will have these pictures forever!  Your session will be all about you – take that moment and embrace it.  Show off who you truly are in your pictures.”

Last year I had cast out a model call for a stylized session and I was lucky enough to meet and work with Bailey.  This all American beauty is such a bubbly girl that she is a pleasure to work with and we had so much fun during her first session that I immediately knew I wanted her to be on my model team for the Class of 2017.

The afternoon that I spent with Daria and her awesome mom, Deanna, went by so quickly because we had an absolute blast.  I loved all of the locations that she chose and they were absolutely perfect because they held special meaning to her & her family.  Daria is one of those girls that is so beautiful that she could be walking runways in Paris or Milan and at the same time, she is one of the most genuine and caring girls that I know.  I can’t wait to work with her again!

“My senior photo experience with Moxie Design was wonderful!  Karen was so fun to work with and she made me feel so relaxed.  We used an old barn in the background of my pictures because the property was where my great grandma was born.  There was an old truck in the back so we took advantage of that.  We also went to the ballpark where I play high school softball and we went to a local park and used a neighbor’s weeping willow tree.  Karen was so awesome to work with and she has such a great camera eye and imagination – no one would ever be disappointed in their pictures.”

The advice she would give seniors who have yet to get their pictures taken?  “Look at a lot of pictures on Karen’s website or on the internet to get some ideas on what you want for your own.  Then throw in your own personality and ideas.”

From the second that I met Emma, I knew that our session together would be nothing short of spectacular.  Emma is one of those girls that personify the saying “she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.”  She had so many ideas for her shoot and that is something that I absolutely LOVE!   I had so much fun during her shoot and loved getting to know both her and her amazing parents.  After finishing her session, I remember calling my husband and saying “It’s days like today that I know I’m in the right place, doing what I’m supposed to be.”  A huge thanks to Emma, Jana and Dennis for being so wonderful to work with and beyond that, for offering such genuine friendship from the moment that we met.

Working with Micaela was so much fun.  This future nurse has the beauty of a supermodel and is one of the sweetest and most genuine people that I’ve met.  During her session (which was unfortunately on one of the hottest days of the summer) she absolutely rocked every single image.  Micaela was up for anything that I suggested and wasn’t afraid to try something new.  I am so happy to have her representing the Moxie Design team for the Class of 2017.

” My overall session experience was off the charts amazing.  Karen is such a talented and incredible person.  I brought four outfits total and I felt like it was plenty.  Karen did a great job of picking which outfit would look best for each specific location.  Be ready to have one of the best experiences of your life!  You will fall in love with every single image that she captures – I highly recommend Karen for your pictures.  In two words I would describe my session as unforgettably phenomenal.”

What was Micaela’s biggest fear about her senior photo session?  “RAIN!  I prayed it wouldn’t rain the day of my shoot.  Luckily, it didn’t!  But I was also worried about how I’d pose and such, but Karen definitely helps you out so don’t worry for a second about that.”

Working with Emily was a bright spot of my summer.  This North Scott senior is one of my models, representing the class of 2017.  Emily has a beautiful smile and is absolutely gorgeous.  I loved all of her wardrobe looks – especially her red prom dress.  When we took her downtown Davenport for the second half of her session and she was working the red dress, I have NEVER heard so many wolf whistles, cat calls and marriage proposals shouted by passerbys.  I can’t blame them – she looked absolutely breathtaking.

I knew the minute that I met Jaime that we would create some beautiful images together so I was super pumped for the day of her session… until I looked at the weather.  The forecast showed 100% chance of rain for most of the day, but the radar map showed that it was hit or miss, so we decided to move ahead with her session and throw caution to the wind.  Location #1 – Rain.  Jaime worked through it like a pro and didn’t let it phase her.  We had intermittent showers, but we also had the amazing cloud cover, so we rolled with it.  Next up? Location #2 – More rain (however this time the storm was amazing because the sun peeked through the clouds and we were able to capture the most beautiful sun rays in some of her images.  Location #3 – Rain again.  By now, I was super frustrated with Mother Nature, but we scooted under a Willow Tree and waited for it to pass.  Location #4?  You guessed it – RAIN!  We had our off camera flash setup ready to go and we shot in between rain drops and captured some absolutely breathtaking images.

Jaime was going for a boho chic look for most of her session,  adding in some volleyball editorial images and she absolutely nailed it.  Jaime said the following about her time with Moxie:
“My senior photo session couldn’t have been better.  During my session the weather was unpredictable.  It rained off and on throughout the session but it ended up making for some really cool shots.  It was so much fun and I felt very comfortable modeling for Karen .  Having a down to Earth, nice and funny photographer makes all the difference and that definitely shows in the pictures.  My biggest fear for my senior session was how the pictures would turn out – and they turned out absolutely amazing.  Karen is the best senior photographer in the area.  The pictures turn out amazing and she makes you feel very comfortable (which is something a photographer should do because the pictures turn out better when you are yourself.  My experience was FANTASTIC!”
