Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Stephanie

Meet Stephanie.
This beautiful Assumption senior and future University of Iowa student and I met up on a warm fall day last October. I remember that day was super bright out and as I was getting to our location where we would meet up, I saw this beautiful shadow pattern on a brick wall. I was super excited when I showed Stephanie and she was up for using it as a backdrop for some of her city photos. Sam and I had a very fun afternoon with Stephanie and her parents! Here is a little about what Stephanie had to say about her session with Moxie:

“My senior experience with Moxie Design was super fun. Karen made it very easy and enjoyable!! I was going for a natural look outdoors with my pictures. I can’t think of a favorite part, I loved the entire shoot, especially the shots at Riverside – it was so much fun!! I love Moxie Design because my session was terrific and amazing!”

One piece of advice that she has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Just relax and enjoy !!!!”

If Stephanie could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “memorable.”

Thank you for letting us capture your senior year, Stephanie!!

xoxo,

Karen

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Maddy

Meet Maddy. This Pleasant Valley senior and future George Washington University student was one of our Moxie models representing the Class of 2020. From our first shoot, which was an editorial with all of our models, to her last shoot (a winter snow mini session) Maddy was featured nationally within high school senior publications in each image that we posted! Also, Maddy was the winner of our annual thrift store challenge, so she is the Class of 2021 Moxie Cover girl, gracing the cover of Moxie magazine this year. Here is a little about what this supermodel had to say about her session with Moxie:

“My senior session was nothing less than amazing. Karen was so nice and made me feel so confident. I had a lot of different looks in mind and Karen made sure they all happened and added a little bit more to them to make it even more special. It was not nice weather on the day of my pictures but Karen and her amazing assistant Sam made it work and my pictures are nothing less than perfect. I honestly had no idea what to expect going into senior photos. When choosing who I would do them with, I saw how personalized every shot was with Moxie and I really liked knowing that my pictures would stand out. I had a lot of different ideas for my photos but Karen knew exactly how to capture every look I was going for. I was really worried I would just look and feel awkward but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Karen made me feel so confident and it felt amazing. High school is a really difficult time for girls and confidence but Karen made me feel so good about myself. It was also not awkward at all, it was really fun just talking to Karen and it’s amazing how relatable she is to truly anyone she meets. My favorite part was the personal touch Karen added. I loved my outfits but Karen knew exactly how to add accessories to them to make them pop even more. She also has such a good eye for location, we found a mirror and I never thought to use it but Karen took one of my favorite photos with it. Also Karen was open to every idea I had! I wasn’t sure about asking but I asked if we could take a shot in the middle of the road, next thing I know Karen is laying in the middle of the street. I shot in downtown Davenport and at the Davenport Country Club. Karen was so good at spotting different locations and areas that I would’ve never thought of for a picture. I really wanted to bring my dog and get a few pictures with him. I love Rizzo a lot but he was also 2 years old at the time and had A LOT of energy. I felt so bad because he would not sit still but Karen still made it work! We ended up getting some really cute photos with him. It was so fun!! I hope all my friends get to feel this special with their senior photos.”

One piece of advice that Maddy has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Make sure to go to someone who will make you feel special. I’m so happy I chose Karen at Moxie because she not only made me feel so confident but she also took every style of picture I could think of. They looked so good and I’m so happy with my experience and will probably be back in four years for my college graduation.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “magical.”

I can’t finish this blog post without a shout out to my hair and makeup geniuses at Haus of Heir boutique salon in Davenport – you guys are amazing!

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Maddy!! I can’t wait to see what your amazing future holds!!

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Bailey

Meet Bailey. This Davenport North recent graduate and future University of Iowa psychology major and I met up last fall for her senior session. I can’t even put into words how awesome working with Bailey and her mom were. Within the first ten minutes of meeting, it felt like Sam and I were lifetime friends of Shelly and Bailey and we were all laughing non stop. Add to that the fact that Bailey is such a natural in front of the camera. She has the most beautiful hair and porcelain skin and this million dollar smile, not to mention that she is super cool and chill and one of the most hilarious people I have ever met.

Here is a little about what Bailey had to say about her session with Moxie: “It was AMAZING!! I will always and forever recommend everyone to do their senior photos through Moxie! It was so much fun. I was constantly laughing and made so many memories. The pictures were just the cherry on top of an amazing time with Sam and Karen. I just wanted to express myself through the pictures and I trusted Karen a lot after seeing her previous shoots and she made my ideas come to life! I wanted to show different aspects of my style and my personality. I was so scared that I would be incredibly awkward and uncomfortable. I was stressing out about not looking good in pictures or them not turning out well. Karen, as always, blew my expectations out of the water. I was so comfortable, she made me feel beautiful. The pictures came out better than I could have ever imagined. I didn’t know I could look like that HAHA! My favorite part of the experience was going to Karen’s and having the reveal. I had two sneak peeks and I was freaking out when my reveal day was finally here. It was so much fun, and Karen makes everything 10000x better. I truly felt like the pictures represented who I was perfectly. I think the most memorable part of the session was the feeling I had during the whole experience. I felt so loved and I felt so confident. I stepped out of my comfort zone and had no insecurities because of how amazing Karen and Sam made me feel consistently throughout the entire shoot. IT WAS AMAZING! You need to take your pictures with Moxie – you won’t regret it. They make you look like a model when you really aren’t and you don’t want to miss out on Karen because she is so frickin’ cool and such an awesome person!!!!!!! I love Moxie Design because of Karen and her crazy talent in photography.”

One piece of advice that Bailey has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Trust in your photographer, whoever it is (hopefully Karen). That was my biggest struggle. I had never met Karen before the shoot, just messaged over Facebook. After the first two pictures, I instantly trusted in whatever she wanted me to do. Want me to throw a black fur thing over my shoulder? Why not. Want me to do this weird pose and walk in slow-mo? Sure whatever you say Karen. Those photos where I trusted her and her idea, ended up being my favorites. Karen knows what she is doing, so LISTEN TO HER, you won’t regret it. Just pose and look pretty.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “unforgettable.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Bailey!!

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Sam

Meet Sam. This Pleasant Valley senior and soon to be University of Iowa freshman and I met up early last fall for his senior pictures. I love when my senior guys choose to dress up for some of their photos as those images always turn out to look sophisticated and timeless. Sam chose to wear a suit for his first look, which was a perfect fit with our modern downtown location. After we wrapped up there, we headed to a park setting where we captured some pretty awesome shots of Sam with his guitar and one of these guitar pics was published nationally by not one, but THREE high school senior publications! When we finished up at the park, we headed to PV’s track and football field to capture shots of Sam in his sporting element. I had an idea that Sam was nice enough to entertain that would showcase both of his sports passions in one image. Huge shout out to Sam for rolling with the punches on this photo as it was also published nationally!

Here is a little about what Sam had to say about his session with Moxie: “My session was a very enjoyable experience. I was a little worried it was going to be a little boring but I was pleasantly surprised. Karen kept it moving with some great poses and direction. I wanted a formal look in my suit and also a fun rock and roll vibe with my guitar. I also had my sports uniforms. I was worried it was going to be boring like I said before but it was really entertaining. The outcome was some great pictures that I am really happy about. My first location was downtown and since I was in a suit it was a perfect fit. It was urban with some great backgrounds. My second location was Devils Glen park. I used this for my guitar pictures. It was very earthy for my casual rock star look. My third location was the Pleasant Valley High School where I was able to capture the stadium and track in my sports pictures. Karen surprising me with my favorite candy and soda was a definite plus but my favorite part was seeing the final product. My most memorable moment was probably the colorful sky backgrounds that we had at the end of the evening for some of my sports pictures. My experience with Moxie was way easier than I thought it would be and Karen was a great person to work with and my pictures are awesome.”

If he could describe his overall senior session experience in one word, he would choose  “fun.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Sam!!

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Sophia

Meet Sophia. This beautiful Assumption High School senior and I met up last year on a warm summer day in July. We had planned out our locations and I knew based on Sophia’s wardrobe looks and where we would be shooting that we would get some great shots but OH. MY. GOODNESS. This girl was born to be in front of a camera and was an absolute natural in every single shot. It was such a fun day – and almost fairy tale like when we were at the park. The creek was surrounded by sunflowers and daisies, we saw deer just wandering by and butterflies were everywhere – I even captured one in a photo!! It was a wonderful day with a beautiful girl and her awesome mom!

Here is a little about what Sophia had to say about her session with Moxie: “I absolutely loved the senior photo session! I had so much fun and Karen was so nice and welcoming. I felt completely comfortable right from the beginning of the shoot all the way to the last shot. I was looking for a shoot that gave me multiple aesthetics, while also staying true to myself! I picked a few different outfits that all were different from each other and I loved all the different photos. My biggest fear was that I would look uncomfortable in my photos. I was totally wrong! I looked so relaxed and natural in my photos and I adore all of my photos. My favorite part of the Senior Experience was definitely when I received the personal candy and drink. I of course was so thankful for Karen’s encouraging words, but the personal gift that I got was such a sweet and thoughtful touch. For locations, we went to a park and used the flowers and bushes to get awesome photos! We even found sunflowers and a butterfly that was such a fun picture. We went to a waterfall and used the water to create some really cool shots. We also went to downtown Moline and took some cool urban pictures. The most memorable moment of my session was taking pictures in the water and feeling like a model! I absolutely loved taking photos with Moxie Design and you should definitely take yours with her!”

One piece of advice that Sophia has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Be happy and relaxed, there’s no reason to stress!”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “Amazing!”

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Ali

Meet Ali.
I have known for a few years that I wanted to get this gorgeous girl on the other side of my camera so when she applied to be a Moxie model, I was ecstatic. I love everything about her – she is such a sweet and genuine person and has the most gorgeous smile!! The day of Ali’s session was super hot and sunny. We knew that we would be shooting in Geneseo, and we had gotten permission to shoot at a special spot at sundown for some gorgeous sunset pictures incorporating Ali’s super cool bike, so I knew it would be a great shoot before we even got started.

Here is a little about what Ali had to say about her session with Moxie:
“My overall senior session was amazing! I had attended my sister’s senior session so I kind of knew what to expect, however it exceeded my expectations! I loved how my photos turned out. This experience was something I will never forget. I wanted something bright and colorful. I love flowers and nature so I wanted to incorporate that somehow. Karen did an amazing job! My biggest fear about this photo shoot was that I wasn’t going to like how I looked in the photos. I had never really gotten my picture taken before and thought I would be uncomfortable. I was completely wrong! Karen made me feel so comfortable in my skin in the photos I was taking. I have loved every single photo Karen has captured of me. She is the best! My favorite part of my Moxie experience was having the opportunity to be creative and different in my pictures. Karen encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. I am so glad I did because those were the pictures that were my favorites. I wanted to have a lot of nature shots so the locations I chose were based around that idea. I chose a flower field that my mom and I had found in my home town and the pictures turned out gorgeous. Another place I chose was downtown Geneseo, which is where I live. The last place I chose was the Hennepin Canal. This location was based around me wanting to use my bike for some shots. The photos were so fun and different. I was happy with all the locations I chose. My most memorable moment in my session was the last hour when we were in the flower field. The sun was setting and the sky was the prettiest color. This was the most memorable for me because it was exactly what I had visioned for my senior pictures. The Moxie Design senior experience is extremely unique and unlike anything you will ever do. I highly recommend it to anyone who is wanting to make some fun memories and have some beautiful pictures. I love Moxie Design because Karen is the best!!”

One piece of advice that Ali has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “The best advice I have is to just enjoy the experience. Getting your picture taken can be uncomfortable for some people, however Karen makes it so much fun! Be open to different ideas and outfits because the pictures turn out amazing!”

Thank you for representing Moxie for the last year, Ali!! We love you!

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Alanio

Meet Alanio. This handsome Moline High School senior and I met up early last fall for his photo session. I had worked with Alanio’s brother, Adrien, a couple of years ago, so I knew that we would already have a blast with his parents, but I had no idea how much Sam and I would enjoy our time during this shoot. Alanio was up for literally anything – if I had a crazy idea, he would do it without question. When I asked him to run on the track a dozen times for a creative photo that I had in mind (in the 100 degree temperatures mind you) he didn’t hesitate. We typically end our shoots with sporting photos, but due to the schedule for Browning Field, we reversed and started with Alanio’s track shots and I am so glad that we did – they turned out amazing!! Alanio brought his fashion A game to the shoot and we laughed for the entire three + hours that we spent shooting that September afternoon.

Here is a little about what Alanio had to say about his session with Moxie:
“My experience was amazing. I loved Karen! She has an amazing personality and so much energy and she had some creative ideas for my photos. Your senior pictures are something you only do one time and you want to be sure they are captured at their very best. I would highly recommend Moxie! The look I was going for was casual but also cool and relaxed. I also wanted some track & field athletic shots. I thought it would be fun to incorporate my car into some photos. It was so hot the day of my shoot and my outfit selections were all long sleeved w/ pants. I was afraid I would be hot and sweaty in my photos! You would never know by looking at the pictures how hot and humid it actually was. We chose to shoot at Browning Field for my track photos. I wanted pictures of me in my element doing the thing that I love. We went to the Kone building because the whole vibe is modern with all of the glass and metal. It’s a good backdrop for a classy modern feel. For my car shots we went to the top of a parking garage. Those shots are some of my favorites as well. We also took photos in the actual Kone parking garage which turned out to be really cool. There were so many spots in the parking garage that you would never think of posing next to (railings, stairs, doors, a bike rack!). Karen just has an eye and knows what’s going to look good, and they turned out amazing. We ended my photoshoot and the very top of the parking garage with my car photos. The sun was just starting to set and the sky looked amazing! I had to get one last photo…a selfie with Karen and Sam. I would say that my session was very enjoyable. I love Moxie Design because Karen has such a great talent and an amazing eye! She also creates such a fun atmosphere.”

One piece of advice that Alanio has for other seniors getting their photos taken? ” Choose your outfit selections early on, don’t wait until the last minute! Have fun, relax and be yourself.”

If he could describe his overall senior session experience in one word, he would choose  “Enjoyable.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, my friend!!

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Julia

Where do I start about this sweet girl?
I met up with Julia and her amazing parents late last summer and I immediately felt as though I had known them for my entire life. We had SO. MUCH. FUN. during her session and let me tell you, this girl knows how to work a camera. I think that every photo that I have ever put up of Julia has been nationally featured (some more than one time). This girl was born to be in front of a camera and I am so thankful that she ended up on the other side of mine. Julia – I absolutely think the world of you and I cannot wait to see what your amazing future holds.

Here is a little about what Julia had to say about her session with Moxie: “My photo shoot was a memorable day filled with comedy and lots of “oh yes that’s it”. I was going for a unique and fierce look for my senior session. I didn’t want the normal “senior” photo shoot and wanted to be unique and cutting edge. Some of my best pictures came from random spots on the side of the road or even a parking lot where Sam and Karen spotted a area for an amazing background. I was afraid that it would be very awkward when posing in random spots. The experience was not only not awkward but Karen made me feel very confident in all my poses. My favorite part of the session were all of the funny jokes. Karen and Sam’s humor which made the shoot even more enjoyable. The most memorable moment of my photo shoot was when we were in the slough and we thought we heard deer and found all the Snails (Gary) on the log where I was going to sit. For the best pictures around you must go to Moxie. Karen’s eye to details make everything look amazing and her personality is top notch. I love Moxie Design because Karen makes it effortless for her seniors personality to show through their pictures.”

One piece of advice that Julia has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Step out of your comfort zone and be willing to try anything. Be confident and true self will come out in the pictures.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “Adventurous.”

Cheers to awesome you, Julia!!!

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Nicole

Meet Nicole. This Moline High School senior and future University of Iowa student and I met up last fall for her photo shoot. Nicole is supermodel beautiful and funny and kind and all things amazing. We spent the afternoon in Erie and let me tell you, Nicole stopped traffic more than once. After we called the downtown portion of her session a wrap, we headed to a nearby cabin to finish her session at a location that is special to her. I absolutely love photographing this beauty and am blessed that she joined our model team late in the season. Thanks for being an amazing person, Nicole!!

Here is a little about what Nicole had to say about her session with Moxie:
“The session was so fun and memorable! Karen really knows how to have a blast. I was going for a more modern look with a splash fun! I had basic outfits for the rustic city look and then some with more color/personality to show off my country side. I was worried I would not get comfortable in front of the camera to be myself. Right away I had a connection with Karen and she made me feel my best and we got some beautiful pics! My locations were in a very small, almost run down town in Erie. I did some in the middle of town and others by a cabin on the countryside. This location is the best hangout spot for my friends and I. My favorite moment of my session was having my dog by my side. Karen got along great with her and made sure to get the best pictures. My favorite part of this experience was meeting such an amazing woman such as Karen. She is so uplifting and does such an incredible job with her work. Karen made me feel so special during the shoot and made me very comfortable. Her personality is so bright and fun there is never a dull moment. She is determined to get the absolute best pictures and clearly loves her job. Moxie Design is the go to! I love Moxie Design because Karen is freaking amazing!”

One piece of advice that Nicole has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Be yourself and have fun!”

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Luke

Meet Luke. This Orion senior and I met up last fall on an absolutely freezing cold and windy day at his family’s farm. Luke didn’t let the weather get to him for even one second. I remember asking him multiple times if he needed to warm up or put on a jacket and he would just look at me and shake his head no, without hesitation. Meanwhile, Sam and I are in parkas and winter hats with scarves and gloves!! One of my favorite elements of sessions is when we are able to incorporate locations that have a special meaning to our senior and their family. Their farm is absolutely breathtaking and had the most amazing sky views and I really enjoyed getting to meet Luke’s family since we were at his home for the photo session. We ended the night at the wrestling room at Orion High School and I absolutely loved seeing Luke in his element.

Here is a little about what Luke had to say about his session with Moxie: “Karen did a great job making me feel comfortable. She had really good ideas including all of the trucks and our large tractor. We also took some wrestling photos which really turned out cool! I wanted mostly outdoor photos on our farm. I like trucks and tractors, so I knew that had to be a main focus. I guess you would say the look I wanted was casual / rugged. Karen really brought out the best in me while featuring what I like. I didn’t want my photos to look the same as everyone else’s senior pics. I wanted something unique and that showed my interests. Without a doubt, she did just that. I live on a farm that has been in my family for over 100 years. I love agriculture and driving tractors; helping out on the farm. I knew I wanted to incorporate my involvement with FFA, the farm, tractors and trucks. We were able to do all of this in different spots to get totally different looks. Wrestling is my favorite sport, so I also wanted to get photos in the wrestling room at school. Karen thought of the locker room photos too, which turned out way better than I imagined they would. Getting to incorporate my cowboy hat into some of the photos was cool. Karen also kept saying “diesel” when she wanted a good smile. That was pretty funny. I really don’t like getting my picture taken, but Karen made it fun and I ended up with some really cool Senior pics.

One piece of advice that Luke has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Relax and trust her. She’s pretty cool and even though you may think some of the poses are weird, the pictures end up being pretty sweet.” (I’m cracking up right now!! Luke, you are awesome! Thanks for the good advice for my future seniors)!!

If he could describe his overall senior session experience in one word, he would choose  “Five-Star”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Luke!!

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Lexi

Meet Lexi.
This Geneseo beauty and I met up early last fall for her photo session downtown Moline. I was stoked because all of her wardrobe choices were amazing and we had picked out some great spots to shoot that would compliment her outfits and the overall look she was going for. If you follow us on Instagram, you already know that we do behind the scenes videos on our story after each shoot. I still get goosebumps thinking back on Lexi’s session because her boyfriend Nick, who I had worked with before, came along on her shoot and they were the absolute sweetest! Nick was helping her with everything, he even helped her change her shoes in an area where she couldn’t sit down without getting her clothes dirty. SO ADORABLE!!!

Here is a little about what Lexi had to say about her session with Moxie:
“It was great!! I felt so comfortable when taking the pictures, and I loved how talkative you and Sam were! There wasn’t a dull moment and I’m so grateful! I wanted a modern and sophisticated look with hints of rustic and a sense of nature. I was amazed with how great the photos turned out! My goal was definitely accomplished, and I love the pictures! My biggest fear was that the pictures wouldn’t look as great as I hoped, but I was wrong! They turned out amazing, and I get so many compliments when I show people! The pictures are STUNNING and I absolutely love them!! My favorite part was being able to partake in such a huge milestone with not only my mom and Nick, but also you and Sam! Everyone was so nice and made me feel great – I couldn’t have asked for a better night! I loved it! I would recommend your work to any upcoming senior! The atmosphere was great and so were the pictures! I had a blast and loved every minute and couldn’t have asked for a better night. I love Moxie Design because Karen really takes the time and effort to learn about what people are hoping for, and it makes for a great shoot!”

One piece of advice that Lexi has for other seniors getting their photos taken? ” I would advise to trust you!! There were some poses and shots that I was a little skeptical about, but I was shocked at how good they were when I saw them! You definitely know how to make people look and feel great when they’re posing, and I would recommend to trust the process!” (I LOVE this advice, Lexi!!!)

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “unforgettable.”

Best of luck in your amazing future, Lexi!!

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Christin

Meet Christin. This stunning Pleasant Valley senior and soon to be Grinnell freshman was an absolute blast to work with. I had worked with her sister, Emma a few years back, so I already knew we would have fun, but Christin surpassed any expectation of awesomeness that we had and her three hour session absolutely flew by. Because I already knew Christin’s family, I suggested some locations that I wouldn’t typically, as they were a bit off the beaten path, but they rolled with all of the punches and I was so excited that Christin was up for anything. Will you climb these stairs? Will you sit (along the side of a busy road) in this semi shady flower field? Will you get into this metal statue? Always, Christin would respond with “sure” or “of course,” which makes my job so much fun. I could go on and on about how much I love Christin and her entire family, but there are so many beautiful photos of her that I should cut this short so you can get to seeing them!

Here is a little about what Christin had to say about her session with Moxie: “My overall senior photo experience was amazing!! I was really nervous going into it to be in front of the camera, but Karen made it so easy. She made me feel confident and relaxed. I loved every minute of my session and I wish I could do it all again!! I wanted to create a look that was really fitting to my personal style. I feel I was able to capture my usual look and Haus of Hair did an amazing job doing my make up while still making me look like myself. I was worried about being uncomfortable in front of the camera and being too stiff, not knowing how to pose and looking awkward. Karen helped me forget about all these worries and my photos ended up being exactly how I wanted them to be. My favorite part was laughing and joking around with Karen, her assistant, and my family. We all had a great time telling stories having fun. I loved the locations that Karen chose for my shoot. I wouldn’t expect the locations to turn out as beautifully as they did because of the part of town we were in, but she was able to find such beautiful locations for my pictures. My favorite location was in front of a yellow door in a remote location. The most memorable moment of my session was walking across uneven ground and up a hill to get to a flower patch in front of a factory building. We took the pictures as cars were flying by on the road next to us. It was amazing that Karen was able to find such a beautiful location! I will always remember my experience with Moxie. I had so much fun getting my hair and makeup done as part of the package. Moxie made me feel special all day and helped me feel beautiful. I love Moxie Design because their photos are absolutely beautiful!!

One piece of advice that Christin has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “I would recommend all seniors to go to Moxie Design to get their photos done. I would also recommend trying to find someone who will make the shoot fun for you, and Karen will absolutely do that.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “memorable.”

I can’t finish this blog post without a shout out to my hair and makeup geniuses at Haus of Heir boutique salon in Davenport – you guys are amazing!

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Christin!

Karen

Quad City Senior Portraits | Meet Madison

Meet Madison. This gorgeous Riverdale senior was a part of our Class of 2020 Moxie model team and is one of the sweetest souls 💗 We met up for her senior session on a day where it was overcast (which is my favorite) but then it started raining a bit. To get out of the rain, we went into a small alley that had an overhang so that her hair wouldn’t get wet and I challenged myself to take a photo in this space that was crammed with ten to twelve garbage cans and recycling bins. We were really just stalling to see if the rain would pass (which it did) but I wanted to challenge myself to capture something awesome. That particular image that we captured is one of my favorite shots of Madison’s entire session! This girl is amazingly genuine, absolutely gorgeous (check out her amazing blue eyes!!) and a killer softball player.

Here is a little about what Madison had to say about her session with Moxie: “Overall my experience with my Moxie senior shoot was honestly one of the best experiences and one I will never forget. I had so much fun that day from getting my hair and make-up done, all the outfit/location changes and the many MANY laughs. The look I was going for was totally casual. I knew I wanted to be in clothes that I was comfortable and felt like myself in. My favorite part about my experience was probably the reveal. Seeing all my images on the big screen for the first time was amazing. I couldn’t believe how great they all turned out. Based on the outfits that I choose, Karen was able to match me up with the perfect locations. Ending the shoot at the softball field was the perfect way to end my session. My biggest fear was that I wasn’t going to be able to relax and I was going to look the same in all my pictures. Karen has a way of making you feel instantly comfortable and putting you at complete ease. Going with Moxie Design is the way to go. You get to work with an amazing photographer who makes sure you have the most memorable experience. I love Moxie Design because I was given an experience I will never forget. I got to work with an amazing photographer and have gorgeous pictures that will last a lifetime. “

One piece of advice that Madison has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “My advice to other seniors is to try new things and trust the photographer. What you may think feels awkward and weird actually turns out amazing.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “Unforgettable.”

Thank you for representing Moxie this past year, Madison!! We love you!

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Sarah

Meet Sarah.
This gorgeous Sherrard senior and soon to be Augustana Neuroscience/Psychology and Pre-Med student was a part of our Moxie model squad representing the Class of 2020. We had so much fun and shared so many laughs during our time together (even if at one point a discus came flying at my face during her sportrait sesh 😂😂😂) Here is a little about what Sarah had to say about her session with Moxie:

” I had a great experience with Moxie Design! While Karen and Sam were very professional, they were able to make the shoot laid-back. In addition to that, even though they have more of a photographic eye than I do, they were still willing to try poses and backgrounds that I picked out and preferred. In my shoot I wanted a little bit of everything– chic, glam, casual, fun, and athletic for my sportrait. My biggest fear about the shoot was that I would struggle walking around in my heels! While this did happen, thankfully we were in downtown Moline so most of the locations were relatively close to one another! My favorite part about the Moxie Senior Experience was the perfect mix of professional and chill vibes. Karen and her team did a fabulous job making my family and I feel welcome and appreciated! The most memorable moment of my session is a tie between when I accidentally let go of my discus and almost hit the camera… (sorry!!) and when I changed into my prom dress in my car because I didn’t know there was a portable dressing room set up (lol)! With Moxie there is a perfect balance between professionalism and fun that Karen exemplifies. I would strongly recommend the Moxie Senior Experience! I love Moxie Design because they turned the stressful task of senior photos into a breeze!

One piece of advice that Sarah has for other seniors getting their photos taken? ” To plan diverse outfits so you have more variety in your photos!” This is ABSOLUTELY great advice, Sarah!!

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “relieving.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, beautiful girl!!

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Ky

Meet Ky.
This handsome Geneseo senior and future Microbiology major was an absolute blast to work with over the pat year. Ky was a member of our Class of 2020 Moxie squad and I was blown away by his super awesome and welcoming personality along with his crazy cool sense of fashion. We had so much fun during Ky’s senior session – I remember laughing so hard that my face actually hurt. At one point, we took about two dozen shots where Ky’s amazing mom, Amy, and my assistant, Sam, were throwing sheet music up in the air. It seemed like that sheet music went everywhere but where we wanted it to go and we were all cracking up, chasing it around – good memories! I had the hardest time narrowing down the images from Ky’s session to share – in every one he looks like he just stepped out of a magazine! Here is a little about what Ky had to say about his session with Moxie:

” My experience was amazing! Karen worked with all of our ideas and really made them come to life. All of my photos came out stunning, and working with such amazing people made it 10x better! We wanted to incorporate many different ideas into my shoot. We used different locations to get nature pictures, urban pictures, and formal pictures! We didn’t really have any fears going into the photo shoot. Karen made us feel at ease from the very beginning. Working previously with Karen at the prom shoot really helped to ease any nerves going into the shoot. I really loved how personal the Moxie Senior Experience felt. Every aspect of the shoot felt personal and tailored to exactly what we were looking for. I had a blast working music into my session! Especially when Sam and my mom threw sheet music around me- It was a good laugh and the end result turned out amazing! My experience was absolutely stellar. Every aspect of my shoot was incredibly memorable and I love every picture that came out of it! Karen is absolutely wonderful to work with! Not only is she an incredible photographer, she is also an amazing person!”

One piece of advice that Ky has for other seniors getting their photos taken? ” Take them with Karen!! Every single idea that you have for your senior pictures will be made possible with Moxie Design! The quality of the shoot and pictures is unbeatable!” Awe, Ky 💗 That is the absolute sweetest. Thank you!

If he could describe his overall senior session experience in one word, he would choose  “memorable.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Ky!! I can’t see what your amazing future holds!

Quad Cities Fashion Photography | Fun times at Riverbend Retro

Last year, I vowed to that I would do one editorial shoot per month as a creative outlet for myself. While that didn’t exactly work out because of my double wrist issues, after looking back at some of the styled editorials that we did do, I want to do more. I LOVE when we are able to weave amazing fashion, locations and hair and makeup together to create awesome images!

Below are the photos from a session I did with the beautiful Katherine and Emma at Riverbend Retro (We miss you, Riverbend Retro)!! Haus of Heir absolutely killed the retro hair and makeup looks we were going for and these girls both brought their A game to the shoot. What’s even more exciting is that images from this session were featured over at Senior Style Guide in their fashion section!

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Hailey

Meet Hailey. This UTHS senior and future Biomolecular Chemistry major was part of our Class of 2020 Model team and I absolutely loved being able to work with her over the past year. As with 90% of our sessions during the months of April through July, we encountered a crazy rain storm smack dab in the middle of her session. Did that get her down? Not for a second! Hailey has one of the most beautiful smiles, but I must say, I absolutely love her model serious face!!

Here is a little about what she had to say alpha pharma usa about her session with Moxie: “I really enjoyed all aspects of my experience. With Karen I felt so comfortable and natural in front of the camera. I loved how the photo shoot was customized towards me; she already had some poses and ideas prepared. I really felt like Karen personalized the experience for me individually. I just wanted a cute and casual shoot. I’m not really that into makeup or dressing up a lot, so Karen really helped me find a middle ground between style and comfort. My biggest fear was that I would not feel comfortable and my pictures would then not look like testobolin me. Karen reassured me because she wanted me to love my pictures and love how I looked; she wouldn’t settle for less. Ultimately, when I saw my final shots I felt like they captured who I am. I couldn’t be happier. My favorite part of my senior session was laughing and messing around with Karen and Sam while we were taking pictures! I love Moxie Design because Karen was able to capture my personality in all of my photos!”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, Hailey would choose  “Energetic”

Quad Cities Senior Portraits | Meet Payton

It’s that time of year again where we get to recall our favorite sessions and share their images and stories here with you on our blog. Meet Payton, a Class of 2020 Moxie model and senior & golfer at Moline High School. During Payton’s full session, we were out on the golf course at Pinnacle and it started raining and lightening, which made us high tail it out of there before going out on the course. I had a separate area in mind that may work for some experimental golf images using light, so with Payton’s permission, we relocated the last portion of his shoot. We had so much fun (even though we got rained on again) and those images ended up getting featured nationally more than once, so in the end, it was definitely worth the travel and rain!

Here is a little about what Payton had to say about his session with Moxie:
” A senior photo session with Moxie Design is by far the coolest experience that you will have – my session was amazing! Karen made everything so fun and as comfortable as possible. I wanted a casual shoot and a more formal shoot as well and Karen did an amazing job picking the right places and having me look the part of being a model. My biggest fear was that it would be super weird sitting there doing weird faces. Karen made everything super relaxed and makes you feel like a rockstar. My favorite element of my senior photos would by far the cool places we got to do the shoots at. I didn’t know half of these places would be so amazing for a picture and they turned out awesome – I love every single picture. The funniest moment would have to be the pop up changing tent. It was so funny trying to fit my 6’2 self inside that thing. I love Moxie Design because
the whole moxie crew are the nicest people you’ll ever meet.”

***(Since Payton’s session, we actually got a brand spankin’ new changing tent that is 6″ taller, so guys, worry no more)! ***

One piece of advice that Payton has for other seniors getting their photos taken? ” Just be yourself and don’t try to go out of your way to change the way you look.”

If Payton could describe his overall senior session experience in one word, he would choose  “Sensational!”

Congrats on your upcoming graduation, Payton! Thanks for letting us be a part of your senior year!

Karen

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Sydney

Meeting up with Sydney last fall was such a wonderful experience. We had a wonderful fall day and her wardrobe selections were out of this world. I was so excited that we got permission to shoot inside of the Music Guild – what an amazing location, especially since it is near and dear to Sydney’s heart. I loved that her wonderful family came along for the session – it made it such a special afternoon. This girl is SUCH A NATURAL in front of the camera – she photographs like she has been on the runways of Paris and Milan for years, and she is one of the sweetest girls on Earth. So thankful that we were able to be a part of her senior year!!

Here is a little about what Sydney had to say about her session with Moxie:
“I had such a fun time during my session, and it was even better than I could have imagined it. Karen was kind, funny, and encouraging throughout the entire shoot, and the pictures turned out beautiful!
I wanted a blend of both casual and dressy looks, but I also wanted each look to still remain true to my personal style; I didn’t want to look like a different person in my shoot. I hadn’t had any experience with modeling so I was worried about picking poses and having variety in my photos. Luckily, Karen had come prepared with plenty of ideas and often asked me if I was willing to try certain poses that she thought would produce a cool shot and then guided me through it. I loved just the overall comfort and ease of the whole experience. It was fun to be a model for a few hours working with such genuine, fun people. Towards the beginning of my session, Karen wanted to get a shot on the stage where I was singing into a mic and had a spotlight illuminating me from behind. However, I had a hard time making it look realistic without actually singing so Karen requested that I sing something from the musical I was currently in. It was in that moment–belting showtunes while Karen snapped photos–that I truly relaxed and just lived in every moment of the rest of my shoot. Working with Moxie is such a fun experience. You will work with some of the kindest people who will make you look and feel beautiful during every moment of your session. I love Moxie Design because the session was fun, the photos are gorgeous, and the experience is unforgettable.”

One piece of advice that Sydney has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Leave any worries you have behind. Remember, Karen and her assistant are professionals, and they will produce gorgeous photos for you. Just relax and enjoy every moment because it will be over before you know it.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “Empowering”

Congratulations on your graduation, gorgeous girl!! I can’t wait to see what your future holds!! xoxo,

Karen

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Lane

Meet Lane. This Riverdale graduate and I met up earlier this spring for his senior session. I absolutely loved my time with Lane and his awesome family – we were literally laughing from the minute we met until the last photo was taken. I was totally stoked that he wanted to incorporate his love of music into his images by bringing along two of his guitars and those photos are some of my faves from his shoot. Here is a little bit about what Lane and his family had to say about his session with Moxie:

“Our experience was perfect, we could not have been more pleased with the shoot itself or with the results. Karen and Matt are so gifted in creating the perfect, personalized shots, we love ALL of the photos! It was a wonderful experience that will always be a special memory for all of us.  We were looking for a casual / little bit country, little bit rock and roll look for Lane’s shoot because that is his personality. He is very laid back but loves to crank out the rock music on his guitars!  Our biggest fear was that Lane might not smile…he does not often. You would never know from looking at the photos Karen took that he is not one to smile much. Lane had such a great time laughing and chatting, he was so comfortable & at ease with Karen & Matt and it definitely shows from his smiles in the photos.  We cant pick a favorite part of the session because it was all great, just a wonderful experience all the way around, great people & great talent.  If you want to get the absolute best senior pictures, then look no further. Karen goes above and beyond and takes such pride in her work and it shows in every aspect.  I love Moxie Design because the dedication to the perfect senior picture is abundantly clear from start to finish.”

One piece of advice that they have for seniors getting their photos taken? ”
Have fun and be yourself, incorporate what you love and go to Moxie!”
