Meet Brenna.  I absolutely loved my time with this natural beauty during her model session.    This future ISU Kinesiology and Athletic Training major is such a breath of fresh air – she is as genuine as they come and has no idea how beautiful she actually is.

Here is a little about what Brenna had to say about her session with Moxie:  “I wanted a session that wasn’t just another ordinary senior picture session. I wanted something that reflected who I am as a person. I wanted to have pictures that were beautifully simple. I love the pictures Karen captured because I am truly happy in them.  I LOVED my senior photo session!! I found confidence that I didn’t know I had, and I think it is because Karen allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and be my true self. She gave suggestions for poses that allowed me to do this, and all of them ended up looking great. She went above and beyond to capture the perfect shot, and I couldn’t be more happy with the results.  I was nervous that I wouldn’t be very outgoing, and my senior pictures would be ordinary. If you get to know me, I’m very outgoing. But until then, I’m very quiet. However, Karen made it so easy and fun, and I felt like I could do whatever I wanted without any judgement. The pictures turned out great because of that.  My favorite part of my Moxie experience is I got to be myself, and I felt comfortable doing it!   I have always imagined my senior pictures would be on my dad’s farm because I learned so much there, and being able to make that dream a reality was truly amazing. I also took a few pictures at the Pitch, which is my high school’s soccer field. Since soccer taught me self discipline, team work, and many other life skills, I definitely wanted to take pictures involving the sport I fell in love with. And finally, I chose Scott County Park because I found so many amazing picture spots while running cross country there.  I loved every moment, but I think my favorite part was when the sun came out of nowhere during the last few minutes of my session. We got some really great shots then, and I felt beautiful.  It was amazing! I felt beautiful and comfortable in my own skin, and I found confidence that I never knew I had. I actually grew as a person after my senior session because I discovered to care less about what others think of me and instead focus on what I think of myself. I don’t know how long it would have taken me to figure that out if it weren’t for the amazing and talented Moxie members.”

One piece of advice that Brenna has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “ALWAYS chose a place that you would feel comfortable with. No matter where you go, your photos will turn out beautiful. However, if you chose somewhere that is fun and comfortable for you, you won’t only look beautiful, but you’ll feel beautiful, too. That’s what Moxie did for me.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “memorable.”

Meet the lovely Fran.  When I met this Rockridge Senior a couple of years ago, I knew that I wanted to get her in front of my camera lens.  When she applied to be a model for the Class of 2018 season, I was thrilled.  I love everything about Fran, including her genuine personality and carefree spirit (and I am super jealous of her gorgeous curls)!   We shot a majority of her session at her family’s property which made it unique for Fran and there so many ahhh-mazing spots there – sunflower fields, amazing trees, tall grass, and ponds.

Here is a little about what Fran had to say about her session with Moxie:
“I was going for a very earthy themed, hippie style.  I love Karen and Max was amazing. I knew Karen from a previous shoot and was incredibly happy to work with her again. I loved the way my pictures turned out. She is so helpful and comes up with things I never would have thought of on my own.  I loved that it was my shoot and I controlled what we did and made it my own. Climbing up in a tree without my shoes on was definitely my most memorable moment – and quite an adventure.  I love Moxie Design because they provide a fun, personal, memorable experience.”

One piece of advice that Fran has for other seniors getting their photos taken?
“Make sure to have fun with it and make it personal.”

Meet  Maddie.

I have had the honor of working with Maddie a few times over the course of the 2017-2018 school year and every time I photograph her, I am amazed by her eyes – they are gorgeous!   This future Dental Hygiene major is absolutely stunning as you will see from her images below.  I remember the day of her session like it was yesterday – super hot and humid.  Did Maddie let this affect her session?  Not for one second.  In fact, we embraced the heat when we got into Duck Creek, making for a memorable session.  Thanks for being a part of the Class of 2018 Moxie model squad, beautiful!!

Here is a little about what Maddie had to say about her session with Moxie:

“I was going for a look that would show my bubbly and bright personality. I wanted pictures I could look back to in the future and still love. Karen did a wonderful job portraying these things.   My shoot was 3 weeks before school started and it was a great start to my senior year. Karen made my session absolutely fantastic! It was substantial due to her making me comfortable, beautiful, and confident. She is extremely good at what she does and you can tell she loves doing it! She is a genuine person and is so inspiring. She works very hard to make your ideas a reality! I had multiple props and ideas and they turned out exactly how I wanted. My family and I went to my premier revel session and no one could just pick one favorite. So of course we had to buy them all! It is 6 months later and I find myself looking back at my photos because I am still astonished by Karen’s work.  It was a hot day in July with a high of 95 degrees. I was very worried what my makeup and hair would be ruined but the final results looked amazing!  I overall loved getting to know and work with Karen, Max, and all the other models. The group shoots were so fun! I was nervous at first but everyone’s goofy jokes and compliments made me feel comfortable. I made friends with a group of sweet girls and I still keep in touch with them. I stepped out of a my comfort zone and it was well worth it!  The most memorable moment was when we hiked down a cold but refreshing stream. Max was carrying the rocking chair we used as a prop. Karen was all prepared in her rain boots. I was barefoot trying not to slip while wearing a sundress. It was so worth the hike down the little stream because we got to the main stream with a breathtaking view.  If I were telling my best friend about Moxie, I would say 10/10 would recommend !! It was so fun and positive. The day felt all about me and they made me feel like a supermodel! My hair and makeup was done perfectly by the team at Haus of Heir. It made me feel super confident along with Karen and Max’s positive comments.   I love Moxie Design because Karen does everything possible to make you feel so confident and special during your shoot day.”

One piece of advice that Maddie has for other seniors getting their photos taken?
“Do not be nervous! Relax and enjoy it. You will cherish these memories forever.”

Meet the beautiful Hailey.
Thinking about this Geneseo senior and her entire family makes my heart smile.  I was lucky enough to get to both her mom and dad, as well as her adorable sister Ali and we shared a lot of laughs during her shoot.  Midway through her session, she surprised Max and I with our own bags of fudge – I mean, does it really get any better than that?   Having Hailey as part of the Class of 2018  Moxie model team was so much fun and I am so lucky to have met her through this process.  I cannot wait to see what this gorgeous girl’s future has in store!!

Here is a little about what Hailey had to say about her session with Moxie:
“The look I was going for in my session was simple yet pretty. I wanted to definitely incorporate my love for piano and Karen did that perfectly!  Overall, my senior photo session experience was more than I could’ve asked for. I had a great time with Karen and I felt like I’d known her my whole life by the third shot! It was a great time and I definitely wish I could do it all over again.  My biggest fear was that I would not like any of my pictures. I never really liked seeing pictures of myself, let alone on social media, but Karen performed miracles and I loved not one, but every. single. photo she took!  My favorite part of the Moxie Senior Experience was just getting to know Karen and Max while taking pictures. They both are such sweet people and they are the ones that make the experience the way it is.  The most memorable moment of my session was how pretty I felt the entire time. Karen and Max were just flooding me with compliments, and I felt like the prettiest girl ever. They make you feel so special and unique in your own way and I can not thank them enough for that!!   I love Moxie Design because the pictures are amazing, and the people are even better!”

“One piece of advice that I have for other seniors is to just relax and really think about what makes you, you. I didn’t want my pictures to look like every other girl’s pictures, and neither should you. Be unique and have fun, and I guarantee it you will have a blast. ”

Meet Sarah.  This gorgeous future Elementary Education major was a part of the Class of ’18 Moxie models and we had so much fun getting to know her!  The first time that we shot together was during our Moxie black themed editorial session.  It was a terribly cold and constantly raining day, but Sarah didn’t let that get her down at all.  We scored a couple of images of her that first day that looked like they came straight out of a magazine and from there, I couldn’t wait for her senior session.

Here is a little about what Sarah had to say about her session with Moxie:
“I was looking for a causal everyday look that reflected my personality.   I was really pleased with my experience! Karen and make made me feel comfortable posing and smiling in order to get the best pictures possible.  My biggest fear was that I would look awkward in some of the pictures but they turned out amazing.  My favorite part was being able to be one of the Moxie Design Class of 2018 models. It was really fun to work with Karen, Max, and the other Moxie models during the group sessions.  The most memorable moments of my session was all the little small talk between Karen, Max and I had between photos. It was nice getting to know them and it made me feel more relaxed.  I have already told my best friends all about Moxie Design and how pleased I am with my photos. If you are looking for a customized session that is all about you and what your interests are, then Karen at Moxie Design is the photographer for you. Karen takes the time to get to know you before the shoot by asking you questions, having you send pictures of your outfits and asking where you would like the photo shoots to take place. Karen also has tons of accessories that you can use to make your outfit complete or add that extra wow factor. Meet the beautiful Deonna.
We were lucky enough to have this gorgeous Riverdale senior as a part of our Moxie squad for the Class of 2018.  We have worked together four times so far and each time, I’m blown away by this girls natural beauty.
The day of her actual senior session, it was a rainy, dreary afternoon.  I love clouds as much as the next photographer, but the rain (that seemingly wouldn’t quit) made the first half of Deonna’s session “an umbrella covering her and our lighting equipment/ run to the nearest building overhang” kind of day.  Luckily, she had secured Rozztox to use as part of her shoot as it is one of her fave places to hang, which gave us a literal shelter from the storm.  If you are ever in the Rock Island District, I highly recommend checking them out – their cupcakes are amazing!!!  During our second model editorial session, I scored an amazing shot of a few of our girls (Deonna being one) that has ended up being one of my favorite images from the past year and is the current back cover of our Class of 2019 Moxie magazine.

Here is a little about what Deonna had to say about her session with Moxie:

“I really wanted photos that captured who I was as a person and I think Karen did a great job of making that happen while also making me feel comfortable. I loved that I had the opportunity to shoot at my favorite coffee shop and how Karen made the experience very versatile and personable.  Overall, my senior experience was the best possible way to begin my senior year. Not only did I gain self-confidence while learning how to pose and take pictures, but I earned an excellent group of friends whom I met the first group shoot and still contact every single day.  Karen went above and beyond my expectations and made me feel like a rockstar in my own skin. She took the time ask me questions about my personal life, so that not only made me feel like I was shooting with a genuine human, but also a friend.   My biggest fear going into the photo shoot was that I wouldn’t be satisfied with my images. I had never had anyone do my makeup before but the team at Haus of Heir only added to my high self esteem that very VERY rainy morning. I was also afraid that the less than fortunate weather would ruin my day- but I ended up loving ALL of my photos and also all of my time spent under an umbrella that my mom or Max would hold; making me feel like a true queen.  My favorite part of my Moxie Senior Experience was stepping out of my comfort zone and realizing that I loved who that fearless and confident girl was. My life hasn’t been the same since, and I owe it all to Karen.  I love Moxie Design because Karen does an excellent job of giving girls and guys an opportunity to feel like a rockstar..even if it’s just for one day.”

One piece of advice that this beauty has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  ” Don’t be afraid to show who you really are. These are your pictures and your moments. Karen will support and help you with everything she can, and I promise it will be SO worth it.”

Meet the beautiful Sydney.  We were so lucky to have Syd as one of our Class of 2018 Moxie models.  The saying “as beautiful on the inside as on the outside” was made for this gorgeous girl.
During her model session, I was so impressed at Sydney’s natural ease in front of the camera and her images turned out absolutely breath taking.  A funny moment that I recall from her session was working with balloons to show that she was part of the Class of 2018 – we all got so many laughs with this because a windy afternoon + number balloons that you want to stay in the same spot = a recipe for disaster.   When Syd booked a fall session, I was super excited to be able to work with her again.  Being in late October, the weather is typically pretty mild and the leaves are gorgeous, perfect for outdoor shooting.  The day of Syd’s session, the windchill was something like 15 degrees and the winds were crazy.  We improvised, found some indoor locations and it was a huge success.

Here is a little about what Sydney had to say about her sessions with Moxie:  “I was going for some casual looks in different areas, but also some looks with my prom dresses! Karen did a great job picking different places for my outfits of choice.  Karen made my senior session so much fun! She made me feel so beautiful by always giving me compliments and saying her signature like “yesssss girl!!!” I’m so happy with how all of my pictures turned out!  I think my biggest fear was if I would look awkward with some poses, but in reality, those pictures turned out to be the best!  My favorite part of my Moxie Senior Experience was the confidence I gained through Karen. She is so outgoing and fun and genuine when giving compliments that boost my self esteem!  It was so much fun – everyone should get their pictures done with Moxie! Not only is the session fun, the pictures turn out so good!  Karen not only takes awesome pictures, she becomes a friend.”

One piece of advice that Syd has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “Don’t be afraid to wear random hats! I used to think I looked awful in hats and those turned out to be some of my favorite pictures .”  – Yes, Syd! Great advice!!

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “outstanding.”

I just got an email from Sydney last week that made me so happy –

“Karen, I seriously cannot stop looking at my pictures even though they’re from 2 months ago! I can’t get over how amazing your images turn out and how good I feel about myself in them. I just had to email you because last night I had a dream that I became a famous model and I had you take all of my pictures. I told my mom “I wish I could have Karen take every picture of me ever!” Ahhh you’re amazing! I’ve told everyone I know to get their pictures done by you when they are seniors 🙂

Meet Sara.

This Geneseo beauty was a part of our Class of 2018 Moxie model team and I absolutely loved her session.  We chose locations that were close to her heart (and ever so beautiful – hello, family vineyard)!  The funny thing that I recall about Sara’s session was that we did some photos downtown Geneseo with glitter.  A couple of weeks later, we were back in the same area shooting, and there was still glitter on the ground from her session.  Hey, when a girl asks for glitter, we give them glitter.
Here is a little about what Sara had to say about her session with Moxie:

“Karen was amazing! She made me feel so comfortable in front of the camera. She truly made me feel like a model. She even brought my favorite drink and candy, which came in handy in the heat! I recommend to her to any senior looking for a photographer.  My biggest fear was having time for my 5 outfit changes and 3 locations. Karen managed to get every outfit change and location done before sunset!  I loved seeing the teaser photos on Facebook. I would check my phone constantly waiting to see my images 🙂  My favorite moment was when we took pictures with glitter. I LOVE glitter and I had a blast playing with glitter and still found it all over me the next few days! If I were to tell my best friend about my experience with Moxie, I would say that if they wanted the BEST senior pictures possible they should contact Karen immediately! I know they would feel comfortable in front of the camera and not have a single image they wouldn’t like.   I love Moxie Design because they helped my senior photo vision come to life.”

One piece of advice that Sara has for other seniors getting their photos taken?”Take time to think about the different kind of looks you want. It makes a difference to take your pictures with an idea of how you want them to turn out. You might want to try and limit your amount of outfit changes though.”
