Quad Cities Nationally Featured Senior Portraits | Meet Emmalyn

Meet Emmalyn.
I have to take a minute to say how much I love this girl and how amazing it has been to have her as a part of the Class of 2019 Moxie model program.  I knew from literally the first time I had her in front of my camera that we were going to create some magic together and let me tell you, she did not disappoint.  When she showed up to our first official editorial shoot, she WERKED it out.  I mean everything was set to glam gorgeousness – the dress, the hair, the lips – she killed it.  The day we did her senior session, we had so much fun.  We ended her shoot in the pitch black of nightfall in a pretty shady dark alley, with a white backdrop set up, throwing paint everywhere.  Luckily, there was a dumpster nearby where we could dispose of the paper that we made our personal canvas.  Fast forward to our Moxie Thrift Store Challenge and this girl’s images fought tooth and nail to score some of the most likes that I have ever received on a post (1,131 likes.  On a single post). It literally still blows my mind.  I also have to put a plug in here for how talented of an artist this girl is.  If you are looking for thank you notes, hand painted signs, drawings, murals, check out her facebook page (Emmalyn Creates) and give her a shout.  I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.  Thank you, beautiful girl, for letting me be a part of your senior year!! xoxo

Here is a little about what Emmalyn had to say about her session with Moxie:  “I am a quirky person, so I really wanted to communicate that in my photo shoot. I used my instruments and paint to showcase my talents. I love how my pictures screamed fun and creativity!   My session was so. much. FUN! Karen was able to take all of my crazy ideas and turn them into a reality. She helped me feel comfortable in front of the camera, and that really shows in my photos!  I was a bit worried about my shoot because I have a very different look than most of the other Moxie models. Instead of trying to change me, Karen took these differences and celebrated them! I am so glad I was able to be completely myself during my shoot.  My favorite part of my Moxie Senior Experience was the reveal. I enjoyed being able to sit down with Karen and my mom and go through all of my pictures from so many different locations. I loved being able to see all of my different looks and reflect on how much fun the shoots were.  The first place we took pictures was at Vander Veer Botanical Park. I wanted a floral/natural look to take pictures with my instruments. We were able to find gorgeous yellow flowers and amazing trees to take photos with. Even though Vander Veer is a common spot, Karen was able to make my pictures unique to me. The next place we shot was downtown. I love big cities, and Davenport was the closest thing to that in the QC. We got some elegant shots in a bank lobby, as well as some fun ones on an conventional staircase. To end the night, we set up a white paper backdrop in a sketchy alley. You would have never guessed that my amazing, editorial paint portraits were taken down a back alley in Davenport. I am so happy with the variety of locations I got to shoot at!   My favorite part of the whole session was when we pulled out the paint. It was so fun to fling paint everywhere and laugh. It was even more amazing to see the pictures that resulted from the fun. The pictures are lively, colorful, and perfectly me! My experience at Moxie Design was an absolute blast! It was all so awesome: from getting my hair and makeup done to getting to choose my own poses. I loved the uniqueness of everyone’s Moxie Design experience. Karen is the best at creating a perfect senior picture experience.

One piece of advice that she has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “I encourage seniors to not be afraid to be themselves! My favorite pictures are the ones that speak to my personality. Having fun and being you is always the most important thing, but is is especially essential during senior pictures. “

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “Exciting.”
