Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Morgan

Meet Morgan.

This Davenport Central senior and I met up on an extremely HOT day last year.  I’ll never forget arriving to Morgan’s high school the afternoon of her session.  We were under a severe thunderstorm warning, but radar didn’t show the line arriving until after Morgan’s shoot would be finishing up, so we continued on with the shoot – and thank goodness we did, we didn’t see any rain!   When I pulled up, there were fire trucks with flashing lights at the same entrance we were supposed to be using.  Thankfully, it was just an issue with the alarm system!  We headed inside and although it was quite warm in there, Morgan didn’t let it get to her for a minute.  We had so much fun over the next few hours with this beauty and her wonderful mom, Lisa.  We headed to Vanderveer for the second portion of her session, and we captured some really cool photos – one of which has been featured nationally more than once!  We ended the session downtown Davenport, where Morgan had the most amazing outfits!  There was this dress that she paired with the most amazing earrings and shoes – so of course I brought along a red purse to match for a few photos.  She also had these leather shorts that had such an editorial vibe  that I loved.  We shared so many laughs with Morgan and her mom, and it felt like an afternoon spent with friends.

Here is a little about what Morgan had to say about her session with Moxie:
“My senior session was amazing!  I love that Karen got to know me personally. She went out of her way to capture some amazing photos and to capture my personality. Karen takes the time to get to know you, has great communication leading up to the photo shoot, experience hands down is the best! Karen definitely surpassed all of our expectations. Leading up to the shoot, my biggest worry was choosing my outfits, but the day of my session it was definitely the heat, humidity and fear of storms moving in. Karen was prepared with numerous fans to help keep me cool and her husband keeping her updated on the storms tracking. Fortunately we diverted the threat and had an amazing end to our shoot.  The most memorable part of my session was feeling at ease, Karen made a stressful situation completely unstressfull!  I love Moxie Design because of Karen and how she made me feel confident and important. You can truly tell Karen loves what she does.”

One piece of advice that Morgan has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “It’s ok to step outside you’re comfort zone. Totally put my trust in Moxie and have my amazing photos to show it.” <– awesome advice, my friend!!

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “exceptional.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Morgan!!
xoxo,

Karen

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Noah

Meet Noah.
This handsome Assumption senior /sports superstar and I met up early last fall for his senior session.
I was so excited to be able to work with Noah’s family again.  I had worked with his awesome mom, Stacey and his older brother, Caleb a couple of years ago, so I already knew we would have a ton of fun.  Noah is such a kind and sweet person and he has the most amazing smile.  We started downtown Davenport, headed to Vanderveer and then ended at Assumption for some baseball and basketball shots. Shout out to Noah for going along with all of my ideas (especially when it came to his sports pictures).  If I asked “could you do that one more time?” during the baseball portion of his session, I must have asked it a dozen times!  Thanks for being such an awesome person, Noah!

Here is a little about what Noah had to say about his session with Moxie:
“My experience was amazing! Karen does a great job of making you feel comfortable and making it a lot of fun!  I just wanted to be me – casual and comfortable.   Karen makes the whole shoot special, – it was a great way to kick off my senior year. Go with Moxie! Karen is the best and she makes the whole shoot fun!   It’s an experience, not just getting your picture taken. Cool memory for a Senior! My photos were amazing. Karen is the best!”

One piece of advice that Noah has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “Be yourself. Enjoy the process and take direction from Karen, it will turn out amazing.”

If he could describe his overall senior session experience in one word, he would choose  “awesome.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Noah!!

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Bronwyn

Meet Bronwyn.
We met up with this beauty on another one of those days where there was a 60% chance of rain the entire afternoon.  Luckily, we only encountered a few sprinkles the first 15 minutes or so and then the rest of the day was perfect!  We had a blast during Bronwyn’s shoot.  We hit up so many different locations and I’ll never forget one – we were downtown East Moline and she was doing a supermodel walk down the sidewalk.  These guys must have seen her from the window of this local bar/restaurant because they came out side just to watch the commotion from her session.  Next up, we wanted to shoot around the Rust Belt – but there was a concert arriving that evening. Tour busses had just pulled in and there were fans and concert-goers everywhere.  Again, it was hilarious to watch the people buzzing about, trying to figure out if Bronwyn was a part of the opening act, or if we were shooting a music video.  Bronwyn is a natural beauty and brings so much energy to each and every photo, it was a blast being able to shoot with her.   Here is a little about what she had to say about her session with Moxie:

“Karen made my senior photo experience so much fun. I have worked with lots of fashion photographers during modeling and Karen is definitely right up there as one of the best! I felt comfortable with her immediately and she and her assistant were just fun to be around. Karen’s attention to small details is what sets her apart from others. She’s overall amazing!  I was looking to do a combination of boho causal and natural looks. Karen nailed it with each frame!  Since I’ve had lots of experience in front of the camera, I was worried the pictures might seem familiar to other looks I’ve had done. Not the case! We got some really fun and unique photos. Karen knows how to play with angles and objects to get an authentic look to each photo.  It was so much fun and I love my photos. Karen exceeded my expectations!  The most memorable part of the session was probably when I was posing and walking down the sidewalk and people were staring, trying to figure out if we were shooting a movie!  If you need to get pictures done, Karen is the best and she will exceed your expectations in all areas.    I love Moxie Design because Karen is organized, creative and overall a fun person to be around. You’ll enjoy the entire process!”

Advice for upcoming seniors from Bronwyn?  “Take time to explore what you want the overall look to be. Karen is great at guiding you from there. Her style closet is amazing!”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “fun!”

Thank you for spending an afternoon with us, Bronwyn!!

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Rose

Meet Rose.
This beautiful Geneseo senior and future Chemical Engineering major is a part of the Class of 2022 Moxie model team and I knew from even before I met Rose for her first shoot that I would love her style.  We were getting ready for our prom editorial session and after dresses were selected, I got a message from her, asking if she could wear her white Doc Martens with her dress… um, YES!  Absolutely!  Rose showed up to that first shoot with this cool confidence and she had this natural way about her in front of my camera, so I was super pumped to have the entire year to look forward to of working with her.  Rose has the most beautiful smile – it is one that can definitely light up a room and she is just the sweetest soul.  When we met up for her full session, the day was not ideal. It was cold and rainy, even though the forecast said it was clear, it basically misted for the majority of her shoot.  Did Rose let that get her down? Not for one minute.  We ended up getting a break in the clouds when we got to Augustana, and as we were getting ready to leave, it poured!  For the thrift store challenge, Rose headed to Fred and Ethel’s vintage store in Rock Island and found the most amazing head to toe look.  When she arrived on set that day, she had styled her hair and makeup to perfectly fit the vintage look and again, blew me away.

Here is a little about what Rose had to say about her session with Moxie:
“Karen and Sam managed to make my experience feel magical even though it was raining and windy the whole entire time. Regardless of how much I was shivering, or how much my curls had fallen out, I still felt so pretty and special. I was going for a more urban look with most of outfits, but a fairytale nature type look with my prom dress, and the Moxie team definitely delivered!  I was worried about feeling awkward because I’ve never been super photogenic, but it ended up not being a problem at all. My favorite part of my experience was how many times I ended up laughing, both Karen and Sam have a great sense of humor.  My favorite photo from the session has to be the one where I’m wearing my two piece rose outfit and I’m mean mugging it next to the little black railing we found. The wind caught my hair perfectly and I just love how my eyes look in that one.  The most memorable moment was seeing Karen having to clean the glass on a random door we found so that we could take reflection pictures.   If I were to tell my best friend about Moxie,  I would say it was one of the only times I’ve actually enjoyed having my picture taken, and I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone looking for great senior pictures. I love Moxie Design because everyone on the team is so awesome and made me feel so so special.”

One piece of advice that Rose has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “Don’t stress! Enjoy every minute, it goes by so quickly.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “confidence-boosting.”

It has been so much fun getting to know you, Rose!!  You are the best!

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Chloe

Meet Chloe.
This Class of 2022 Moxie model and I met up late last spring for her senior session.  I was so excited going into Chloe’s shoot because during the short time that I had spent with her during our model prom session she absolutely blew me away! Chloe is so photogenic and has this natural ability in front of the camera.  She is absolutely stunning and has this amazing eclectic style that I love! During Chloe’s senior session, we started in the district of Rock Island, which provided the best urban backdrops – so many different textures and colors!  Chloe didn’t shy away from any of my crazy ideas and embraced anything that I suggested we try.  From there, we headed downtown Moline and ended up around Sylvan Slough, where the Mississippi River provided the backdrop for some gorgeous photos.  We experimented with a couple of hats, a flower crown and even some candles as we got closer to sunset. Chloe, you are so beautiful! Thank you for being a part of the Moxie model crew!

Here is a little about what Chloe had to say about her session with Moxie:
“My overall senior photo session experience was amazing. I felt so comfortable and stress-free the entire shoot. It was a super fun experience! I was going for a few different looks during the shoot and Karen was able to capture all of them. From multiple outfits to scenery changes, it was perfect. The most memorable part of my session was just working with Karen in general. She is so easy to talk to and made getting my senior photos done such a great experience.  My biggest fear was that I wasn’t going to be comfortable and that I would end up looking awkward in all my photos. The outcome was quite the opposite. Karen made me feel so comfortable the entire shoot and was hyping me up the entire time.  My senior session was such a fun time from beginning to end and something I’ll never forget.  My favorite photo from the session was in my long orange skirt when I was standing in a field of tall grass and yellow wildflowers, and I was looking off to the side. I loved my outfit in this photo and it looks so natural and candid.  I 1000% recommend Moxie Design. Like I have said so many times, my experience was great. Not only did my photos turn out great, but I had such a wonderful time the entire session.  I love Moxie Design because Karen is such a great photographer and such a sweet person!”

One piece of advice that Chloe has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “Don’t stress, just relax and have fun!”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose “memorable.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Chloe!!

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Emma

Meet Emma.
This beautiful Bettendorf senior and I met up last summer on a super warm afternoon.  The one downside to my job is that we are totally at the mercy of the weather and last year was one for the record books.  We had rain on more shoots than not and the summer was blazing HOT.  During Emma’s session, her mom was so amazing in helping to ensure that we kept any shine from her face and that her hair was always looking perfect, which was a HUGE help on a day with crazy hot and humid conditions.  We started out her shoot at Deere Wyman and it was the perfect backdrop to utilize these gorgeous flowers. If you follow my photography, you know that I love shooting through things, and we found this amazing spot to shoot through a fence.  There were these beautiful lavender flowers and we were able to capture some images that look like a perfume campaign. Emma was so sweet and had the most beautiful smile – I loved working with her!

Here is a little about what Emma had to say about her session with Moxie:
“It was a great experience. Karen made me feel very comfortable and confident throughout my entire session.  I wish that I could go and do it all again – it was a lot of fun and I loved being able to share the photos with my family afterwards! I was going for photos that were bright and happy.  I was worried about posing, but Karen directed me throughout the shoot so that I didn’t have to worry.  I loved when she shot through a fence because it ended up being the perfect frame for my face. The most memorable part of the day would have to be going to cool down in a random building and ending up finding the perfect cool lighting by an elevator.   I love Moxie Design because Karen made me feel so confident while I was shooting.”

One piece of advice that Emma has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “I would take my photos later in the year when it is less hot.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “fun!”

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Ella

Meet Ella.
This beauty and I met up last spring for her senior session on a day where the weather was threatening us with scattered storms all. day. long.  We escaped the majority of the rain until the last 30 minutes, when we were shooting down along the river. A crazy storm barreled through, but luckily it was just a scattered spot, so it passed within 15 minutes and we got back out and finished her shoot.  Huge props to Ella for being up for literally anything and everything that I suggested including laying in the absolutely soaking wet grass following the rain that we got.  Ella had put together so many amazing looks (still obsessing over her Converse with flames) and we matched each look with an area that would best compliment that.  I remember we walked around a corner of an alleyway in downtown Davenport and I saw this entire block of yellow scaffolding.  Some people would have looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if she would walk through it, kneel down in the middle of it, etc. but Ella was immediately like “Absolutely!”  This girl is so beautiful both inside and out – and has been featured nationally multiple times with images from her senior session.

Here is a little about what Ella had to say about her session with Moxie:
“My session was amazing. Karen and Sam do a great job at making you feel relaxed and comfortable and do everything in their power to make you look and feel confident! My shoot was for my senior photos so I had many different looks and I tried to match each look to whatever vibe of the location we were at. My biggest worry about the shoot was thinking it was going to be awkward and that it would show in the photos but it was the complete opposite! Karen does an amazing job at making you feel comfortable and helps guide you throughout the whole shoot while hyping you up after each picture which made the shoot even more enjoyable! My favorite part of my Moxie Senior Experience was how welcoming and helpful Karen and Sam were. They make the whole experience super enjoyable and fun. I loved how there wasn’t one moment where I felt unsure or uncomfortable about the way I looked or how the pictures were going to turn out. I was confident the entire time that my pictures would turn out just as amazing as I felt.  The most memorable part of my session would have to be the last location that we went to. There was perfect weather for my entire shoot until it started pouring. Karen was so willing to wait out the storm with us to get the last set of pictures in and they turned out AMAZING!  If I had to tell my best friend about my experience with Moxie Design I would say that they should book a session! I can’t say enough about how great my experience was from the hair and makeup to the beautiful locations to the comfortable environment. It was an all around great experience!

One piece of advice that Ella has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Not stress out about the shoot. I know I was worried about how I would look and if it would be awkward but it was no where near what I thought it would be like. Karen helps you all throughout the shoot and makes sure you’re comfortable and is open to any suggestions or fun ideas that will enhance your photos and your overall experience!”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “amazing!”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Ella!!  You are one in a million!

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Annalise

Meet Annalise.
If you follow our social media, then it is no news that this beauty is our Class of 2023 cover model!  Annalise is a part of the Class of 2022 model crew and this girl has the most amazing and hilarious personality (as well as being supermodel beautiful).  We met up with Annalise and her awesome mom Betsy for her session on a pretty perfect day.  I was super pumped because Annalise was open to the idea of incorporating a couple of non traditional wardrobe looks into her shoot, and we captured some pretty awesome images (one of which ended up being featured nationally a few times)!   She was up for getting into a creek, experimenting with hats, and allowed me to push that editorial envelope at the end of her session, incorporating my car into some shots.  There is never a shortage of laughter when we get together with this beauty – it feels as though we have known each other forever.

Here is a little about what Annalise had to say about her session with Moxie:
“My shoot was exactly like I pictured it to be. Karen did such an amazing job of coming prepared and guiding me along the way to ensure I felt comfortable and that my shoot was as fun as possible. She allowed me to try all the poses and additions I wanted to my shoot to make it personalized just for me, making it feel very special! Going into my shoot I was definitely nervous that I wasn’t going to feel comfortable taking pictures in such a public setting, but Karen and Sam were so so great at making me laugh and causing little distractions that helped me not even realize anyone else was even there! Getting get dressed up and going to all the different mini shoots all throughout the experience has to be my favorite part! The most memorable part of my session was probably the last part of my shoot. We did an editorial portion where I got to wear fun outfits that I usually would never wear in my daily life and use props like cars and such! My favorite picture is me sitting in front of the wall with leaves on it in my jeans and white shirt outfit because I love the traditional outfit and makeup and the way the backdrop and post go so well together! My experience with the Moxie was so much fun and the pictures turned out amazing! There were so many great places to take pictures! Sam and Karen are so great!”

One piece of advice that Annalise has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Don’t be afraid to get in front of the camera!”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “amazing!”

I have enjoyed working with you so much, Annalise!!  You are amazing!

Quad Cities Senior Pictures | Meet Arra

Meet Arra.
This Class of 2022 Moxie model and I met a few years ago during her brother’s senior session on the PV track. I was SO EXCITED when she applied to be a part of our model team because I remembered how hilarious and beautiful and sweet she was and I couldn’t wait to work with her!  Sometimes you meet people and it’s just like they are immediate family and that is what the session was like with Arra and her mom Amber.  We laughed SO HARD, so many times, without which, we could have been miserable in the heat and rain.  We started off Arra’s senior session on an unseasonably warm day in the gym at her high school and it was insanely HOT in there.  After that, we headed downtown and were able to shoot a few pictures at the Current Hotel and Up Sky Bar, followed by some spots downtown Davenport, where we encountered a rainstorm.  This easily could have derailed the session, but Arra’s positive attitude continued throughout the day and we used the rainstorm to create a really cool photo with an umbrella.  We then ended the night on the Mississippi River with sparklers that took forever to get lit – and when I say forever, I don’t mean a minute or two.  It was really windy because of the storm that had blown through and we were trying to use a lighter that wouldn’t seem to spark. After two lighters and endless matches, we finally got them lit and captured some beautiful sparkler images on the water.

Here is a little about what Arra had to say about her session with Moxie:
“I had a blast working with Karen and Sam. They made my session so enjoyable with their fun ideas and great personalities. I wanted Karen to capture pictures of me that were the closest to reflecting my everyday life. Because of this, style wise I chose a more casual natural look.  I was concerned about the weather. It was supposed to be really hot, and there was a chance of rain. Well, it was really hot, but Karen did a great job of keeping me from breaking out into a sweat. It also rained briefly, but that didn’t keep Karen from being creative inside a parking garage while it passed, and also grabbing the umbrella that happened to go perfectly with the outfit I was wearing, to capture some fun pictures out in the street.  Oh my goodness, we had so much fun…I loved every part. I’d have to say we laughed pretty hard inside the elevator at the hotel headed to the rooftop for some fun shots. Karen is so much fun, and she is so good at what she does. She is available if you need help with what to wear, and will happily answer all of your questions. Our time together went by so quickly because we were having so much fun. Karen is passionate about creating the perfect shots that compliment each location. My senior session is something I will never forget, and I am so thankful to have so many amazing pictures to remind me of our time together.”

One piece of advice that Arra has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “Have fun, and don’t stress out about it.” <— YESSS!! Great advice, Arra!

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “delightful.”

Thank you for being such an amazing human being, Arra!!

Quad Cities Senior Photography | Meet Carly

Meet Carly.
This MHS Senior and I have worked together for the past year and we have had a blast getting to know each other while creating some amazing images.
Carly is one of our Class of 2022 Moxie models, so I have had the privilege of having her on the other side of my camera numerous times. She is absolutely stunning and such a joy to be around.
For her shoot, she scouted all of her own locations – and brought Sam and I to a park that we hadn’t ever been before!  Shout out to her awesome mom, Wendy, for being another set of hands (literally) for Sam and I the day of Carly’s session.  We were at her last spot and we were in a creek that had a pretty steep trail leading down to it.  I’m a clumsy person by nature, so when I’m holding my camera in water, I always aim to be extra careful to avoid slipping and dropping it.  Even though I was wearing hip waders, I was so focused on getting a shot, I slipped a bit and ended up falling into the water! Wendy was right there to help all of us out of the creek embankment to dry land.  I told Carly when we were shooting that she reminded me of a Guess model from the 90’s (think Claudia Schiffer) and then we captured this one black and white closeup of her and it could absolutely be a Guess ad!  We all shared so many laughs that day, it was like being with a group of friends.  Here is a little about what Carly had to say about her session with Moxie:

“Overall my senior photo session went better than I could have ever imagined. I loved the experience because I had so many resources to enhance my look in the ways I wanted to.  I was going for a pictures that would represent my personality and style which is exactly what I got!  My favorite part was getting to work with Karen because she is so welcoming and easy to be around. She really brings out confidence in anyone she meets and she was always able to adapt and make me feel comfortable. I think my favorite photo was the photo of the volleyball net draped over my shoulders and I am looking back at the camera which was on the ground. It was an amazing idea by Karen because the angle and the pose show such fierceness while all the light are focused in on me. My biggest worry was that I was going to look awkward doing poses but the poses were very easy and turned out amazing. The most memorable part was when Karen told me to sit down on a rock in stream and when I sat down I immediately suck because it was all mud. Still got the shot though!  Moxie Design is a super welcoming company that provides you with endless resources to ensure the look and outcome you might desire.”

One piece of advice that Carly has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “Remember to be confident and stay open to any pose or area Karen might throw your way.  Karen supplies hair and makeup through the amazing Haus of Heir and even has a whole Instagram account with jewelry, hats, and clothes for you to choose from.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “enjoyable.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Carly!!

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Henry

Meet Henry.
I have had the privilege of working with Henry over the past year as he is a member of our Class of 2022 Moxie model squad.  Sam and I had SO. MUCH. FUN. during Henry’s session.  We started out downtown Moline for a couple of his looks and then played around with water bottles to capture droplets / spray in some of his swimming pictures, which turned out awesome.  Then we headed to his house to get some photos with his pups (who I absolutely fell in love with) and we ended the night capturing some sunset photos with Henry doing flips on his in ground trampoline.  Sam and I then got to jump on the trampoline and it was an absolute blast. Thanks for being awesome, Henry!!

Here is a little about what Henry had to say about his session with Moxie:  “My senior session was easy! Karen and Sam know what they’re doing.  I was worried that I would feel awkward, but Karen kept things casual and fun and she treated me like a friend. My favorite part was the overall experience.  Karen makes you feel really important but there’s no pressure.  I really like the pictures I took w/my 3 dogs! They were fun to take and turned out SO good!  The most memorable part of my session was doing multiple backflips on my trampoline while Karen got the perfect shot.  Definitely use Moxie!  Karen & Sam are awesome!! I love Moxie Design because Karen is cool! She played Drake during my photo shoot!”

One piece of advice that Henry has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “Don’t worry about feeling embarrassed or awkward. Karen takes her time and makes sure she gets the best pictures.”

If he could describe his overall senior session experience in one word, he would choose  “fun.”

If you follow our social media religiously, then you already know that my session this past summer was not the first time I have had the honor of working with this beauty.  Gracie and I met up four years ago on a freezing November day during her senior year. I will never forget how cold it was – and sleeting!  When we arrived at our location, I got out of the car, wearing my full snow gear and told her that if she wanted to reschedule her shoot, we definitely could and she responded in asking if she could go barefoot in her summer outfit.  I knew then and there that this girl was amazing and that is where our friendship began.  Grace is one of those people that absolutely comes alive in front of the camera and we have worked together quite a few times since that cold November day.  When she reached out to me and asked if I would do her college graduation photos, I was so pumped!  I knew that she would have some creative ideas, amazing wardrobe choices and I was just excited to be able to spend another afternoon with her.  I love that I am able to do something that I am so passionate about for my career, and I don’t ever take that for granted. But meeting people like Grace are the icing on an already pretty awesome cake. I love you, girl!

Here is a little about what Grace had to say about her session with Moxie:
“I love Moxie Design because of Karen and Sam and their beautiful personalities! My photo session was something I’ll never forget. It was truly amazing. My favorite part of the experience was all of the positive energy Karen and her team gave off.  I feared I wasn’t going to be comfortable with myself in front of the camera.  My outcome, however, was the complete opposite. I never felt so comfortable in my own skin.   The most memorable part was creating a life long friendship with Karen.  If I were to tell my best friend about Moxie, I would say that it was all worth it. From the preparation before your photo shoot to picking out your pictures at the end, is WORTH. IT.”

One piece of advice that Grace has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “No one is perfect. However, you’ll feel like the most perfect person during your photo shoot.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “love!”

I’m so proud of you, Gracie!! I can’t wait to see how you change the world.
xoxo,

Karen

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Anna

Meet Anna.
This Geneseo senior is a member of the Moxie models class of 2022 and I am so excited to be able to share photos from her session!  We traveled to a nearby small town – a location that I have wanted to shoot at for years and had so much fun doing it.  I LOVE that Anna wanted a little something different for her pictures and I am still in awe of her style and fashion sense.  All of the looks for her main session showcased her personality and talent at styling.  When it came time for the thrift store challenge, she put everything together with this professional, editorial vibe.  She had made her own shirt combining a scarf and a necklace (genius), paired some amazing yellow shoes with a red belt and did her own makeup that was perfect – down to her red eyeliner. (Scroll down to see a snapshot of this amazing look)!

Here is a little about what Anna had to say about her session with Moxie:
“My senior photo session experience was amazing! It was low stress and super fun. I was going for an eclectic small town girl with big city energy.  My biggest fear was my style not being portrayed through the photos. I see so many of my peer’s senior photos and they’re either very plain or show only the photographers style and not their own. But, through picking out outfits that I wanted and with help from Karen I think the pictures I got back really do portray me and my style. I loved doing the thrift store challenge. Styling is one of my favorite hobbies and getting to create a look for a challenge was so much fun.  My favorite picture is from my senior session. It’s the one where I’m in the orange sweater and towards the camera with my hand in my hair and the bag on my shoulder. When I saw this picture I thought it looks like a magazine cover – it captures my smile so perfectly.  The most memorable part of my session was that Karen had been wanting to do a photo shoot at this tree line for just about forever. I just remembered how excited she got when we got to the tree line and she got to watch her bison come to life.  The Moxie team is amazing! Everyone made me feel comfortable, and beautiful.  I love Moxie Design because they made me feel confident for just being me.”

One piece of advice that Anna has for other seniors getting their photos taken? “Just be you! When you look back at these pictures you’re going to want to see what you were like back in high school, not what you thought you should be like.”  <– terrific advice, Anna!

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “fabulous.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Anna!!

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Shannon

Meet Shannon.
This Assumption beauty was a part of the Class of 2022 Moxie model team!!  I remember the day that I met Shannon for the first time – it was the prom editorial session.  She arrived looking like she had stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine and I was obsessed with her dress!  We did Shannon’s full session in the spring, shortly after the prom shoot, so I was so excited to be able to have the opportunity to work with her on the thrift store challenge and fall minis! I remember during her full session, we were down along the Mississippi River and it was super windy (like 45 mph constant winds).  I decided to take a silhouette photo because of the beautiful sky and it turned out to be one of my favorite silhouette images that I have ever taken.   When Shannon showed up for her fall photos, I fell in love with her boots. They were red plaid and I am still crushing on them (scroll down to see them in the look where she has the yellow jacket)!  Shannon has the most beautiful eyes, and her black and white photos are some of my faves!

Here is a little about what Shannon had to say about her session with Moxie:  “My session was amazing! I loved every second of it and loved all of the pictures I got back! Karen made me feel so comfortable taking pictures and made it so fun!  I was going for a casual city look with my session. My biggest fear was that I wouldn’t know how to pose, but Karen helped me the whole way!  My favorite part of working with Moxie was the pictures and meeting Karen and Sam!  The most memorable shoot that we did would have to be the prom pictures because they turned out so cute and fun to take! I love Moxie Design because of Karen!”

One piece of advice that Shannon has for our upcoming seniors?  “Be confident!”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “bombshell”  (and I agree 100%)

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Shannon!

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Jordyn

Meet Jordyn.
This gorgeous girl and I met up last April and I can still feel how cold it was that day when I think back on it.
I believe I was wearing full winter gear as the real feel was in the 20s & 30s, and this girl didn’t flinch about the icy temperatures – she was such a trooper!
Her prom dress that we shot at Augustana is truly one of the most gorgeous dresses I have ever seen (and if I was going to prom I would be buying that dress ASAP)!
I loved that we were able to incorporate her sweet pup into the session!  One of the closeup photos that I took of the two of them was featured nationally – so exciting!

Here is a little about what Jordyn had to say about her session with Moxie:
“It was awesome! I had no experience with photoshoots before but Karen made everything feel super natural and fun. I am really glad that we did my senior session with Moxie.  I think the overall energy of the shoot was the most memorable. I mainly just remember feeling so confident and beautiful the whole time even though it was so cold. I didn’t really have anything particular in mind. I really just wanted the pictures to feel and look like me. I wanted it to be authentic towards who I am. I was mostly worried about being awkward and hating all of the pictures but it ended up being the opposite. I had a lot of fun during the shoot and the pictures were all amazing!  I would say the best part of my session was the confidence that I felt during the shoot! Karen was so positive and encouraging that it made me feel beautiful. I love Moxie Design because the whole process was easy and the pictures were beautiful!”

One piece of advice that Jordyn has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “I would just say to have fun and be yourself because those make the best pictures.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “fun!”

Thank you for being such a champ throughout the freezing cold temperatures, Jordyn!  You absolutely rocked your session!!

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Lauren

Meet Lauren.
This supermodel and I have had so much fun over the past year, working on multiple shoots. As you may have guessed, this beauty is a part of the Class of 2022 model team and she is always up for any creative and crazy idea that I throw her way.  During her main senior session, we experimented with a roll of craft paper, capturing a black and white image that is not only breathtaking, but that was featured multiple times nationally by high school senior publications.  I just kept asking her to trust me and she always responded with a smile and a yes. For her session, we stayed downtown Moline, but incorporated so many different areas – from a forest, to some cool alleyways and we ended on the top of a parking garage with this gorgeous red dress.

Here is a little about what Lauren had to say about her session with Moxie:
“I absolutely loved my session with Karen. She makes you feel so comfortable and she is like your personal hype man.  I was afraid that I would be stressed and nervous while getting my pictures taken, but Karen is such a friendly and fun loving person that I felt absolutely no stress or pressure at all during my session.  The whole session was a great experience and I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to get senior pictures. Karen’s personality just makes the session even better. She is a very bubbly and funny person which helped me feel more comfortable during the shoot. I think anyone can take a picture but Karen really brings the pictures to life and shows your personality through your photos. Karen has a way with the camera for sure and with people. You can tell Karen really cares about all of her clients. She was a really great photographer and made me feel like I was taking pictures with just a friend. I am so glad that I got to have this experience because I have some really great memories from my senior photography shoot and I will cherish the pictures that she has taken. When it came to the shoot I knew that Karen was a professional and so I went into it with an open mind, which I think was the best option for me because then Karen could recommend poses for me, which I feel like just helped my pictures turn out overall even better. If I would have gone into the session having an expectation of exactly how I wanted the pictures to turn out I would’ve overstressed the entire thing and they wouldn’t have turned out as well, but when I just let Karen do what she wanted, they turned out even better than expected. . I feel like you can tell in all of my pictures that I am having fun and I’m excited to be there and I’m not nervous at all. I loved getting my hair and make up done professionally – that was a lot of fun!  Karen made me feel feel very welcomed and excited to take the pictures and we had some great conversation as well during the shoot. Honestly I don’t think I could pick a favorite picture because all of them say some thing different about me. I feel like she captured my entire personality through the session. Karen found a way to capture kind of what this vision that I wanted in my head that I didn’t know I wanted. I think the entire shoot was very memorable I don’t think I have a specific memory that is my favorite from the shoot because I can’t pick since they’re all my favorite. I loved how welcoming and nice she was.I think if I had my senior pictures taken by anyone else they would not have turned out as good as they did since Karen took them. I have a genuine smile that does not feel forced at all and almost all of my pictures because we were all having such a great time talking and interacting with each other. Go to Moxie Design for your senior pictures! I never thought that I could have such good senior pictures as I do until I met Karen and seeing all of the work she does. She has such a great personality and makes you feel so relaxed and welcomed during your session that there’s nothing that you need to stress about. The whole session was a blast and I had so much fun shooting it and I would highly recommend having her do your senior pictures!  I love Moxie Design because Karen made the experience something I will never forget.”

One piece of advice that Lauren has for other seniors getting their photos taken?
“Don’t be stressed or anxious about the shoot. I was a bit nervous when I went into this because I was afraid I was just gonna look a un-natural and not like myself but Karen really brought these pictures to life and I fell in love with them.”

If she could describe her overall senior session experience in one word, she would choose  “amazing.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Lauren!!

Karen

Quad City Senior Photography | Meet Sydney

Meet Sydney.
This MHS beauty was one of our Class of 2022 Moxie models and we have had so much fun working with her over the past year!
Our first model team shoot was last March at the Botanical Center in Rock Island and the first click of my camera with Syd was absolute magic. I knew then and there that we would create some amazing images together.  Fast forward ten months and Syd has been featured nationally multiple times and she was even printed in a High School Senior editorial magazine – twice!  I love when we are able to incorporate meaningful locations into our sessions and we were able to shoot the majority of Sydney’s full session on her Grandparent’s property – which is absolutely breathtaking!  Towards the end of the shoot, Syd mentioned that she wanted to take a shot with her jeep in this field and of course I was totally down to the idea.  We had her back the Jeep up so that one angle of the frame would be lit by the sun and then set up our off camera flash to fill in the other side of the photo and that. shot. was. ahhhmazing.  Thanks for being a part of the Moxie crew, Syd, and for rocking every shoot!

Here is what Sydney had to say about her experience with us:
“My Moxie senior photo experience was great!  I felt very comfortable and Karen pushed me outside of my comfort zones too.  I chose a few different looks for my session but I really like my western look I did with my jeep. My favorite photo is the one where I was standing on the hood of my jeep in a field and the lighting made the picture look amazing! I was worried I would look awkward in pictures because I wouldn’t be able to relax, but after 5 minutes of taking photos I felt confident about taking pictures with Karen.  My favorite part of being a model was the thrift store challenge.  It made me pick a unique outfit that I probably wouldn’t normally wear.  I really liked how open Karen was with my ideas and how she tried hard to get good pictures of me and my dog even when he wouldn’t sit still.  I love Moxie Design because there were many opportunities throughout my senior year to do pictures and I had a fun time at every session.”

If Sydney could use one word to describe her senior photos, it would be “unique.”

One piece of advice that Sydney has for our upcoming seniors?  “Be confident about what poses you are put in and stay relaxed. I feel like this really helped me during my sessions and made my pictures turn out better by being confident.”  Great advice!!

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, Sydney!!

xoxo,

Karen

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Abby

Abby and I met up late last spring for a fun photoshoot to capture her senior year.
This beauty is my cousin and doesn’t live in the Quad Cities, but she came into town so that we could dive head first into the style closet to bring an editorial edge to her photoshoot. The idea for this shoot started when I was shopping at Aldi and I found a super cute pair of rain boots and a matching umbrella.  I reached out to Abby to see if she would be down for a photoshoot and she immediately said yes – I was so stoked!  Abby brought her graduation cap and gown so that we could get some grad pics and I LOVE the one where she is laughing – such an awesome shot representative of the fun and amazing person that she is.  For her third look, we were able to capture some photos in Abby’s beautiful yellow prom dress – the sky was GORGEOUS for these shots!  The fourth look that we experimented with started when I found this “SENIORS” shirt in Iowa City. I knew that it would be epic for a shoot and Abby brought her A game for sure – the photos that we have posted on our social media have been nationally featured multiple times. The last look that we ended the night with was all straight from the style closet.  We paired some retro leggings with a cool vintage jacket and threw in some Gucci inspired sunglasses that I had scored during a trip to Chicago.  I love how Abby was open to having me style her from head to toe and utilizing the accessories from the style closet really pushed her fashion quotient the next level.  Thanks for being so awesome and doing everything and anything I suggested (namely climbing on top of that crazy wall in the last look)!

Much love to you, my cousin!! xoxo

Quad City Senior Pictures | Meet Carson

Meet Carson.
This handsome Geneseo senior and I met up last October on a day that was FREEEEZING cold.  Not only was it cold, but it was spitting rain and super windy, which could quite often force a session to be rescheduled.  I talked to his mom that morning and we both decided to just go for it and see what we could capture, knowing that we could finish up the session on a second day if need be.  Carson is one of the sweetest and most genuine people that I think I have ever met.  From the first few minutes when we met up in the bowling alley, to the very last shots outside along the river (where it is even colder and windier than usual) Carson’s smile never left his face.  He has such an amazing energy and is full of so much positivity that it is contagious.  I am so thankful that Sam and I were able to be a part of Carson’s senior pictures.  Here is a little about what he had to say about his session with Moxie:

“I looked at my senior session as just another thing I had to do on the road to graduation but I have to say, I had a surprisingly great time! Karen made me comfortable immediately and from there it just got better.  I felt like we became fast friends.  I had secretly hoped the session would be shorter than planned but I had so much fun with them that it flew by.  Karen and Sam were a blast to be with and I think you can see how relaxed I am in my photos.  As a high school bowler I knew I wanted some on the lanes. I also wanted wooded and urban – we were all over the board but Karen came up with the perfect plan to make it all happen! She had great ideas on exactly where to go for the wooded and urban shots I was looking for and we couldn’t be happier with the results.  I didn’t have any fears, I just thought the session might be a little long but it flew by and I had so much fun. This shows in my photos because I’m relaxed and having a genuinely great time!   Towards the end of the shoot we were just laughing so hard and Karen actually just kept shooting. One of these shots became one of our favorites. It’s a black and white with my sunglasses on and I have the biggest smile on my face! It is so genuine and really shows so much of my personality.  I would tell anyone that they need to book Karen for their senior session! This is something they will never regret. Their photos will turn out amazing because Karen is fun and goofy and will have you laughing in no time. You will look relaxed and natural in your photos and your true personally will come out. I love Moxie Design because my photos exceeded expectations!”

One piece of advice that Carson has for other seniors getting their photos taken?  “Trust Karen! She’s the expert. You might think a pose is uncomfortable or a background is somewhat different but remember that she knows what looks great through the camera.”

If he could describe his overall senior session experience in one word, he would choose  “unforgettable.”

Thank you for letting us be a part of your senior year, my friend!!  Thanks for being awesome!

Moxie Model Fall Mini Sessions

Each year, we work with 15 models who represent Moxie Design during the end of their junior year through their senior year.
One of my favorite parts of working with our model team are the mini shoots!  This past October was our first time doing a fall session with these awesome seniors and now I think that this will be something that we do annually because the photos turned out SO beautiful!
We met up at Blackhawk State Park to be able to capture a variety of looks, colors and locations within one park.  Ten of our models took part in this years fall minis and I absolutely LOVE how these photos turned out.

Now that my time with this model team is coming to an end, I just want to say how much I have loved getting to know you all. I can’t believe it was last February when we first met up for our prom shoot!! Even though our sessions looked a bit different this year, I have loved getting to know each and every one of you.  Cheers to your awesome futures!!
